Artisanal Pipes

I started smoking pipes almost 50 years ago, starting with inexpensive instruments like La Strada, Eventually I got around to the upper class, like Barling and Dunhill. But I've been reading a lot, with interest, posts from writers advocating artisanal pipes, ones that are individually crafted and hand made. If I were to take the plunge, which craftsmen would be worth my time. And remember, I'm on a retiree's budget, although I'm not opposed to splurging every now and then.

Everybody is going to mention their favorites, and rightly so. Sometimes an artisan's work just speaks to you for one reason or another.

Me personally, I'm partial to Scott Thile's pipes.

Your best bet is to look at each person's website and you make the decision as to what speaks to you.

I recently have had 12 commissions done for me by Jack Howell. His pricing for great classic looking pipes that are amazing smokers cannot be beat.
I have around 20 Rad Davis pipes and they are great smokers, he has retied though. But you can find them here and there if you really look around.

Just my opinion, But another pipe carver to consider Is Jay Mouton in Louisiana
I feel that Jay Mouton is very under rated. the outstanding quality of the pipes he makes for the prices he is asking are excellent!
he post his pipes on Instagram and he has a Youtube channel.

Excellent recommendations here and as you can see plenty of good options as well but we'd be remiss as a site and community to not include site member Doug Finlay.

I really can't say enough good things about his work.
