Pipe Dreamer and Star Gazer
For what it's worth, Eric Schmitt was a student of mine in the 7th grade. Keep your eye on him. He made it clear that he would one day be president of the United States. He has quickly moved up the ranks for State politics, to Attorney General of Missouri, and now its Jr. Senator. He is quickly becoming a regular on news channels and is quickly inserting himself into national politics. You read it here first. A 12 year old tells you that they will one day be president of the United States and then starts making it happen...amazing. Yes, he was a very talented student and one we all learned to take seriously.

"General, we have a problem. We've lost control ! The computer has become self aware and seems to have developed a sense of spirituality. it keeps formulating Super Artificial Pipeblends and repeating the phrase
"Oozy, sweet, goodness" over and over " We're trying to locate the source of the problem ... "

Its programmed by humans correct ? Not logically possible then. A mood ring is smarter than some humans. Sorry this is a bad hollywood movie script.
well that's the point Schmidt is making.. they are starting to program themselves. human programmers are being replaced by AI programmers and (next?) will be "recursive self-improvement"...

Just watched the video - the Eric Schmitt in the video is not the Senator Eric Schmitt, LOL, that was my student - I was confused because the good senator from Missouri talks about this as well. Geez
This Eric Schmidt was the CEO of Novell back in 1997-2001, then became CEO of Google from 2001-2011, then Exec Chairman of Google (alphabet) from 2015-2018. Not a lightweight techbro.

The time clock is sure being accelerated from the 30 to 50 year mark that was being proposed.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. The guy that won the Nobel for his contributions to AI thinks there’s a pretty good chance that AI will exterminate humans in 30 years, so we’re all doomed anyway.

Just thought I’d add something cheerful to the discussion.

My stance on this is, if it's so intelligent, why is it taking so damn long to do it? You'd think it'd be able to accomplish the task in a couple of months, six tops. All you really have to do is take away the Walmart app and all access to any content that is in any way, shape or form Kardashian-related, and most of the race should basically extinct themselves in a matter of days just by virtue of the deprivation alone. The remaining pests can surely be finished off by way of swapping jury duty with mandatory participation in local Broadway musicals, and another Bud Light-type fiasco in the advertising media sector.

I hope some bot is taking notes. And give me my cut, dammit!

This wouldn't be an issue if we hadn't first engrafted society and its governance into technology beforehand. We mediate, moderate and minister our lives through it, all while driving to give it independence and agency.

And, it's ridiculous to think that this is a "thing" that is "going to happen.". We're well on our way.

Unlike in film, "ThoughtNet" would quite necessarily precede "SkyNet."
