I read this same article last weekend and almost posted it here but didn't. Thanks for doing so!
Zero doubt it was a de-facto condition of publication.
The entire thing is a bit odd, in fact. Sufficiently apologetic in tone to make me wonder if it's a Trojan Horse of sorts intended to discourage interest in the hobby. Catch the curious with the title, then make 'em realize they'll regret "going there" if they do.

Forgive me if this has been the topic of a thread already.
And challenge the die hards…A nicely worded self-deprecating article that would dissuade the casual reader and tempt the people on the precipice of joining our delightful hobby.
Yeah, that stood out plainly. Obviously, not spent enough time on Pipesmagazine!"we’re all still recovering from the great Dunhill debacle of 2018, when this fabled pipe-tobacco manufacturer, after more than a century of shelling out their legendary blends, decided to cease production."

Yeah, you don't need that negativity in your life. The impression I got from the article was one of regret. He seemed unhappy to have been involved with the hobby at all. As someone just starting out, I almost wish I hadn't read it.
