Just glued a pipe cork knocker onto this classic art deco hotel lobby ashtray.

With the indents in the metal I’d guess it didn’t but it’s a very good looking and handy piece!

It probably had a simple fitted clear or rose tinted liner. Made them easier to dump. Can’t find the dang things anyway. It also kept the bottom from getting burned from people grinding out butts in them. In no way am I criticizing. I love those stands.
An old amber tray with the right contour might fit.

A particularly fine example; it seems to have a faux egyptian hieroglyphic design from when that was popular. I recently inherited 3 more modern (1950s) plain ones but haven't done the cork knockers yet. Two have a large corporate ashtray insert, the third smaller has a Boston College cigarette ashtray insert. I like the cork knocker ... now I have to find some corks.

Good idea ! I may order if can't obtain some champagne corks from my sister-in-law who occasionally hobby makes cork wreaths for fall and holidays. Thanks!

I don't want to throw stink on your beautiful , retro ashtray , Mike , but isn't it kind of a chore to empty ?

I find free-standing ash trays handy. Many years ago I found one with a large amber colored cut glass ash tray which sits in its black metal stand at a Goodwill. Only time I've ever seen tobacco-related items there.

Nah, you turn it upside down. Nothing about pipe smoking is supposed to be easy. We leave that to the cigar smokers.
