The general rule for aromatics is they're hit or miss lol. I think that could apply to all blends as far as taste goes.
You can draw the flavor out of any blend by keeping your palate moist. Sip on water while having a bowl. Water won't impart any other flavors, so it will give you a solid idea of the flavors of the blend. Another way to get more flavor out of a blend is to "chew the smoke" as GL Pease mentioned in one of the radio episodes. Draw the smoke into your mouth and move your tongue around a bit. Kind of swish it around in your mouth like tasting wine before expelling it. It activates more of your taste buds and brings flavors out better. Retro-haling is another way to get different flavors from a blend. When you expel the smoke through your nostrils it activates the olfactory senses and adds depth to the flavor.
Aromatics just aren't for some people. Same can be said for English, Balkan, Burley, Virginia, VaPers etc.. If you're looking for a blend with a more pleasant room note for smoking around other people I'd suggest Virginia blends. They tend to be less powerful or offensive. Some VaPers can be pleasant, but I think they're more hit or miss than straight VAs. A side note to this, I did get complimented when having a bowl of H&H's Anniversary Kake last night. It was one of those, "Not quite sure what I'm smelling, but it definitely is pleasant.".
