Aromatic with a strong amount of nicotine - is there such thing?
I'm in my first year of pipe smoking, and I've noticed that the aromatics I've smoked have far less nicotine than the non-aromatics I've tried. Is that the price you pay for smoking aromatics, or is there such thing as an aromatic that also has a high nicotine content?
Thank you for your answers!

I know of Cornell $ Diehl's Green River Vanilla which is a straight burly blend with a vanilla topping. However, it seems to have a mild rating for nicotine content.

As a general rule, aromatics are low in nicotine. There may be some exceptions, but since I don't smoke aros and don't want high nic, I don't know what they are.

I just finished a post on this forum about how great Peterson's University Flake is, and I'll say it here, too! It's a VA flake with a nice, subtle-sweet aromatic note that really complements the VA. It takes a little practice since it's a flake, but I love the stuff, and it certainly has a good bit of vitamin N - more than your average aromatic by far.

I consider Sam Gawaith's 1792 Flake and Dunhill Royal Yacht to be aromatic (though not all agree with that assessment). They are on the highest end of the nicotine spectrum.
Another option is to grab a pouch of Five Brothers and use it to kick up an aromatic you like otherwise.

Wish I could help, but like Jud, I really don't mess with aros at all. Let me know what you find in the future on that.
BTW, welcome to the pipe world! :puffy:

I'll second SG's 1792. It's a real butt kicker and I guess you could consider it an aromatic because of the tonquin. One of my all time favorites.

Peterson's Hyde Park is an aromatic, Rum and Maple, with a good kick of nicotine.

Mix any aro with 30-50% of 5 Brothers to give it a nice kick. Other than that, I really haven't found an aro with much punch.

The nice response to that - it might be the tonquin. I think people handle it differently.
The snarky response to that - Okay, if 1792 is too mellow for you, it's either Tambolaka or Crowley's straight perique soaked in rum if you need a more potent tobacco.

Thanks for the responses. I'll definitely be trying some of these... as soon as we get past the Las Vegas show. I'm saving up all of my allowance for the show! :)

1792 with a little age to it does mellow out some , and the tonquin flavor becomes more pronounced.
To me though, the aromatic with a kick is in the heavy Lakeland class and is called Grousemoor. YMMV but I always get a buzz from smoking it, without fail.

Howdy Otto,
Here's a very good trick for you. Simply add some Five Brothers to any aromatic that you enjoy. Five Brothers is a powerful (in the nic dept.) burley that absorbs the flavor of any tobacco it is combined with and does not give out a flavor of its own that would conflict with the aromatic of your choice. It'll muscle up any aromatic blend, for sure.
Best,
Pipestud

Pipestud - Thanks for the tip! I was curious about Five Brothers. With it's strong reputation, I thought it'd be strong in taste, too. Nice to hear it's a silent partner in that regard.
I get to smoke my pipe 2-3 times a week, so I don't really NEED the nicotine, but sometimes it's fun to get a little dizzy. You guys know what I mean?!
Edited for grammar.

I would try a tin of Peterson University Flake, to my tastes the plum flavor is very noticeable without being over powering and the combination of Kentucky and Burley gives it some pretty decent nicotine.

Many of the Lakeland style aromatic blends from GH and SG are definitely not lacking any nic kick at all. I had my first bowl of GH Coniston Cut Plug last night. Nice floral aroma and flavor and made the room spin a little bit. One of my new favs!

I'm not sure if it actually qualifies as an aromatic, but 4th generation 1897 has a very potent vanilla, honey, sweet kind of smell. The taste is pretty much along those lines too, and is fantastic, with a great room note. Based on the smell I thought it would be extremely mild, but I got surprised by it! I think a lot of it was just due to the surprise, expecting it to be really mild and actually getting something with medium strength or more, but it was great.

Prince Albert Cherry Vanilla has a bit of a kick (compared to other aro's) but I hate the blend and it is in no way a decent smelling Aro.
