I am a fan of Mccllellands Mocha Black (http://pipesandcigars.com/620mochablack.html#.UlnKflCsh8E). Being new, I would caution you to take reviews as what they are: the opinions of others. For example, a few people REALLY dislike the Mccllelands Mocha black because of its coffee taste. I like coffee, so the flavor is impressive to me. Perfectly accompanied by a cup of coffee while smoking! ;]
These guys have been smoking way longer than me. I found that asking them the strength of the flavor gave me the info I was looking for, moreso that just asking if they 'like' it. Some people like mushrooms on their pizza...some dont.

What has been missed here, is that cigg smokers have a real difficult time being satisfied by pipe tobacco. It is because the pipe tobacco should not be enhaled. The nicotine is absorbed by your mouth tissues rather than your lung tissues. So, this transfer of acceptance will take a while. I agree that you should experiment with both aromatics and non-aromatics. Be patient. Have lots of clean and dry pipes and don't burn your tonque. Smoke maybe five pipes per day and see how it goes. I smoke my series of Captain Bob's Blends every day in dedicated pipes. Two of my blends are aromatic and the other one is non-aromatic. I suggest that you experiment with both sides of aromatic degree from any maufacturer that appeals to you. Not necessarilly, my blends. Rather, follow any course that appeals to you. Consider the fact that pipe smoking and the difference in nicotine absorbtion is physically different and will require a considerable period of time if you can, in fact, avoid enhaling your smoke and be able to adjust to the change. Not everyone can.

This is exactly how I feel about Hobbit's Weed. It smells good but the taste after lighting it up is nothing. Very disappointing. I still think as far as OTC blends go you can't beat the Captain Blacks. I have one from my local B&M, their "Coffee Pot Pass" house blend: chocolate and coffee notes which you can taste while smoking it as well. Good stuff. Stay away from the bulk bags and maybe get some 1Q equivalent from a different source. Just for Him's 1Q equivalent is quite good, plus their Middle Earth series has some good blends, such as "Ruins of Isengard".

@captainbob,
Thanks for the advice. Interestingly enough, although I've been smoking cigarettes for close to 7 years now, I find myself (for the most part) unaffected by the nicotine. I'm more interested in the "act?" of smoking than the head buzz. I guess this is why I've been searching for something with a nice pleasant taste for so long. So as far as the inhaling bit goes, I'm doing wonderfully. I think I've inhaled maybe once since I started and that was only because I wondered why my brother kept doing it. Apparently he is less fortunate in the nicotine department.
As for progress, I've started really tasting some of the flavors. I enjoyed a nice bowl of Benjamin Hartwell Evening Stroll after dinner this evening. :)

bfisher, excellent! Keep it up. Sounds like you are a likely convert. I wish you the best and keep up the good work of enjoying a pipe.
