To avoid buying every pipe known to humanity, I keep my focus to Barlings and Dunhills. My pipe smoking started with my father and he loved those brands and I keep the tradition going.

I'm brand conscious to the extent that, when I think I might want to buy another pipe, I look first at Savinelli and Brigham because every one I've purchased (4 of the former and 2 of the latter) have been great smokers at very pedestrian prices.

I seem to stick with what has worked good for me in the past. In order Boswell, Savinelli, Peterson, Brigham, Aston. I have tried diffent brands some good, some bad. I tend to like Peterson for the history and the others for look and draw.

I suppose I'm not very loyal to any single brand yet, I just seem to be buying a little bit of everything lately. I guess I'm still trying to find out what I like. I recently baught a new Chacom, a Comoy, a Peterson Dracula, a Stanwell and a Big Ben (yeah PAD got a hold of me).

It may be a cliched choice, but my brand is Dunhill. Both for pipes and tobacco. They just have a consistently high-quality product that is easy to get at most B&Ms and online. When I was starting out I knew I wanted to get a couple of high-quality pipes and being unfamiliar with most of the artisan pipe makers out there, Dunhill seem to be the best choice. When I look at pipes online, (which is often) I still gravitate toward the traditional styling of English pipes in general and Dunhill in particular.

My searches for pipes usually start with the type, which is either a "bulldog" or a "Dublin." Then, I just scroll down till one meets what I had in mind. With over a hundred pipes in my collection, I (me myself and I) find no noticeable difference in the quality of a particular brand or artisan, in whether it smokes better or worse. I can have the most sublime smokes in a Grabow or cob, just as I can my Dunhills or Beckers. Of course, I don't discount the opinions of others who may have a loyalty to a particular way a brand or artisan may smoke for them. I am just glad that I have developed my skills enough to have a range of possibilities for myself. However, I do think it's very cool that folks like Sable and Harris have found a particular fondness for brand or artists. I think that is what makes us diverse and unique among a plethora of different folks from different backgrounds and styles of smokers. And, it gives them an area of expertise that I take into serious consideration when we discuss aspects of pipes, aesthetics, and technique.

I have tried a lot of the common brands: Savinelli, Peterson, Stanwell, Radice, Brigham, Nording and a few others. They are good but I recently discovered Boswell Pipes. For my money they are the best. I find myself gravitating toward their brand more and more.
