I am the opposite of Marc, I don't like straight pipes. Every pipe I own has a bend of some sort in it even if it is very slight.

It had a stinger and gets as hot as a bursting sun.

One feature that I am leery of in pipes is ornately turned stems. I'm simply worried that they may weaken the stem and be point where it might break.

Cob. The only cob I have ever smoked delivered a bad smoking experience each time I smoked it.

I just can't make myself like Bulldogs or Rhodesians. No Baccus, dragons, sailors or lions on Meerschauams either for me.
Oom Pauls are stretching it too. The same for big ol' honkin' freehands.

I DO like Peterson's conventional pipes. I do NOT like P-lips or Systems. P-lips don't work well because I'm a clincher, plus they burn the roof of my mouth. Pete Systems are just nasty things when you happen to up-end the moisture in the reservoir and it goes into the bowl. Kirsten and Falcon systems are much more to my liking.
In general, I won't like I a pipe I can't get a pipe cleaner down to the bowl without taking it apart. This eliminates anything with more curve than a half bent.
Also, I don't care for freehand abortions that don't even look like a pipe. I stay with the standard shapes.

I really dislike Meerschaums with carved heads, claws, eagles, bears, spaceships, unicorns, or etc.... Not that they don't look pretty they are just not for me!

I love a latakia smoke and one that lasts over an hour so I tend to gravitate to large pipes with large bowls rather than small ones. My favorites are large toward very large. I'm partial to oom pauls because I am a clencher and they are very comfortable. I also enjoy the pleasure of smoke curling toward my nostrils so oom pauls really hit the spot for me. With regard to P-lips and clenching....I have one large bent Pete Kinsale and I have a softy rubber cushion on it so clenching the p-lip is comfortable and easily held between teeth.

uncleauther- what don't you like about "the pipe". I never smoked one

but I found one at an antique shop That I considered buying. The blue

pipe's shape is Canadian which I think is rare. Is $5 to much to pay for it?

I'm more partial to a bent pipe than a straight. I like to clench while doing things and the bend is much more comfortable to me, while straights seem like the balance is all in the bowl end, making it hard to hold in my mouth. That doesn't mean that I haven't found a couple of good straights, just that I'm not prone to smoking them.
Meerschaums to me are a bit of both. I love the carvings, especially by Yanik. However, for smoking, I prefer something that resembles a pipe to smoke. Cobs don't do it for me, however, I'm going to keep one and try it again soon just to see if my tastes have changed any with them.

My dislike is for Meerschaum, more because I dont want to be smoking anything that delicate, or something I need gloves to smoke. More because of my own clumsiness than anything. Lets see now, my next pipe purchase is going to be a falcon and I do not like the appearence of them, they are ugly things. But its positive aspects have won me over. That is of course, providing I dont give in to temptation and buy a peterson army mount or a savinelli tortoiseshell.
