I was a mod at the busiest cigar site(cigarfamily.com) on the web for a number of years, and honestly it was a full time job. 8 hours a day plus, tons of posts deleted per day, matching ip addresses, banning people, it was a ton of work. Now I did get something out of it, I got to pick a box of any Opus I wanted and a box of any other Fuente made product I wanted per year. The mods here get nothing and I know how many spam posts and other issues they have to deal with so it is not an easy task. To keep a site like this totally clean would take full time 24/7 moderation. Our mods have lives, Kevin has a life so it does take time to get stuff deleted. Being a mod can be a thankless job and I for one appreciate all they do.

@plateauguy, I didn't know what a Mod was until a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't really know what they did till now!! lol Back in the 'swinging 60's' in the UK we had 'mods' and 'rockers' - I won't say which I was!! LOL

@six, shit, okay I'm not proud of this! I dressed as a Mod; sharp-creased parallel trousers: Ben Sherman (original) shirt; sleeveless sweater; shiny 'cherry-red' shoes, and I had short 'razor-cut' hair, later 'feathered', as in the 'Small Faces'. I listened to Soul Music (Atlantic NOT Tamla Motown!! LOL
BUT I didn't like scooters; I liked motor bikes and my pals were mostly Rockers! I was as uncertain of my identity as I was of many things in those days!! LOL
Is that enough of a confession?? LOL

To be a moderator or an administrator at any site, you really have to love that site. It truly is a second job, and can be a full time job. It's a job you don't get paid for, but you do it anyway, because people are depending on you to do that job. Sometimes it's pretty easy and the site pretty much runs itself... other times, you log in, and your eyes pop out of your head, and you realize all hell out broke loose and you have to put on some tall boots to wade through the crap and get to work fixing things. For most mods, I believe they enjoy doing it, because they really do love the site they moderate. Their fellow mods and other members become sort of a second family. The site becomes your baby and you want to protect it and nourish it and help it grow. I've been there and done that, and I have the utmost respect for those that do it here.

I think the mods do a fine excellent job.

I can't emphasize enough how important it is to support our website sponsors.

With that, things will work out well for all concerned.

@samcoffeeman, thanks. I'm pleased my 'disenchanted ex-member (?Europe/UK)' theory is disproved.

@cortez, I have learned a lot today, especially about our Mods. I have gained a full appreciation of what they do for us, and how difficult it is for them to do things quickly at 04.00 US time!!

P.S.- It's true. We do this for the love of the hobby and the site and are not remunerated in any way. Unless you count being able to hack all of your webcams whenever we want. The things you do in front of your computer screens would make sailor blush! LOL! JK! :nana:
This is precisely why I have tape over my webcam.

What I like best about the mods here is that Harris isn't one of them, lol. I would probably have all my posts deleted.

As if the Mods don't have their hands full corralling us members into semi-organized chaos, now they

have hackers to contend with. If I were a hacker, I'd be deeply ashamed to say I'd hacked into a pipe

chat group while some other hacker was describing how he shut off the lights in the Kremlin.

Add me to the Mod Appreciation List. I see that when there are problems like spammers, they are dispensed rather quickly. When a thread becomes overly contentious and members start to draw their swords, i think their approach is good - "Let 'em play ball" for a bit, since there are bound to be conflicting opinions, but close the thread if it starts to get personal.
Not sure what to think of Kevin's rationale or logic in allowing the dismissed member who sneaked back in to remain, when two sentences earlier, he stated that "once gone, gone for good," but it's his web site and his choice is one that must be respected.
It is also noteworthy that Kevin jumps in personally to explain to members what circumstances are behind problems we've had, and to clarify issues that may need that. Many other sites are not like that. Members are just left to speculate.
