I grow both my avocados and tobacco, coincidentally next to each other too. I vote semois as the best thing to match with smashed avo on toast.

I’m 31 and pretty much all of my friends who are my age smoke pipes. Some daily, others only occasionally. In fact i think I only have one mate who doesn’t smoke in any form and that’s cos he is a professional trombone player. Needless to say he can drink the rest of us under the table
Going to have to try this semois when it is available again.
Sounds like we are in parallel universe's ? and to think how much crap I've heard people give 'kiwi's' growing up, my Sister has been living in NZ for a year or so, and I'm now wishing our grandparents boat got blown off course?
Sounds like a good group, although I'd probably trade in smoking to be a pro horn player too ?

I was working at a brewery a few years ago and the head brewer (30) smoked a pipe. He explained to me that good pipe mixtures were basically the tobacco equivalent to craft beer. He knew that I was a beer geek, and that I wanted to quit cigarettes so he gave me a nice czech basket pipe, some samples of tinned English and VA blends, and told me to stop by the grocery store and pickup pouches of Carter Hall and Prince Al. A month later I had tried most of the common OTCs. 2 months later I was neck deep in lurking here and started ordering from SP and P&C and making trips to nearby B&Ms for english blends and Va/Pers. I found most OTCs to be approachable enough, but the only one I didn't quickly bore of was Sir Walter Raleigh.
Presbyterian was the blend that really hooked me and pulled me in.
965, Old Dublin, and Balkan Supreme/Sasieni are others that I'd recommend to newer smokers that express an interest in orientals. If they really dig OTCs but want some smoky latakia as well, Sutliff's Count Pulaski, Revelation Match, or Lane HGL are good choices.
Some immediately gravitate toward VA. Capstan comes to mind as an endearing flake. Luxury Bullseye, Navy, and Twist are all fine starting points, as well.

There are 34 million cigarette smokers in the US, another 12 million cigar smokers, another 32.8 million vape, and about 800K smoke a pipe...... per CDC estimates. What’s interesting though, is that 1 in 5 Millenials vape.? While overwhelmingly, (according to Pew research as well as Gallup poll data), Millennials view tobacco in an “extremely” negative light.
Pipe use hasn’t been a significant portion of the smoking population (let alone the general population) since the 1950’s/60’s when 19% of smokers were pipe smokers. But the good thing is, even a small increase in pipe smoking population, can stave off a loss of tobacco manufacturing. We’ve lost a great deal of great tobacco producers in my lifetime (McClelland, Murray’s, Peterson blending house, original Dunhill blending house, etc) not to mention a huge consolidation of brands, If that 800k could increase to 1M, or 1.5 M you’d preserve this hobby for a few generations at least. With the new vaping restrictions, it’ll be interesting to see how thosevapers migrate to alternative products (piping has a leg up on Cigs and Cigars with the abundance of aromatics), or just abandon tobacco altogether.

As for what tobacco to tempt the youngins.....not sure really. Sweet aromatics have tempted many a would be smoker including myself, but ultimately come up short because of rookie smoking techniques or changing tastes. While an English blend can broaden the pallet and open up some doors as it did for me. But maybe just some tried and true middle of the road otc blends that offer the old timey experience the new generation seeks might just be the best option. Or a nice slap in the face with a strong plug or rope outta set em straight. ;)

I'm a millennial (1984) and I've smoked a pipe off and on since I was 20 or so. To be fair, I was mostly a cigarette smoker until fairly recently but always loved the smell of a pipe so I finally made the switch.

Here is a Tobacco Business article that touches on the subject that some may find interesting : Revisiting Pipe Tobacco - https://tobaccobusiness.com/revisiting-pipe-tobacco/

Another millennial (1987) checking in. Smoked cigarettes for over a decade with the occasional pipe, chew, or cigar thrown in. Haven't had a cigarette in years thanks to really diving into pipe smoking. I was able to stock up on McClelland before they shut their doors. Still got a few dozen cigars around for when that mood strikes me but I pretty much exclusively smoke pipes nowadays.

I've given a couple of my buddies a corn cob or basket pipe and some samplers of tobacco. They've liked it but haven't really taken to the pipe like I have. Most folks my age still just smoke cigarettes or abstain from tobacco all together.

Generations change timings and definitions as often as most people change their socks. I just wanna, sit in my chair and grumble about the downfall of society due to the new generation and the mess our last generation left us ever since I turned 40. I wonder what that means.

Spoken like a true boomer, even if you no longer make the cut
Actually I kind of like being undefinable.

EDIT: there are a lot misconceptions surrounding the so-called boomer generation...because they are typically associated with the '60s "counter culture" and the Viet Nam war, but the majority of that generation were actually too young for all of that. Maybe the oldest 1/3 of it was that...but a large part of that era was actually made up of the younger members of the previous generation.

Probably that you are just a bit of an a-hole. I wouldn’t worry too much

Born in 1986. A lot of my friends are ex-smokers and a few still cigarette and cigar smokers. I’m the only pipe smoker amongst us all. Whether more of them would be into it I’m not sure. If they expressed an interest I’d help them but so far they haven’t. Their loss though.

They are also very good at drinking and occasionally other forms of hedonistic party activity. Must be a musician thing.

Born '82, not sure I like being called a millennial, guess I barely missed not being in the bracket.

Only reason for caring about whether there are younger pipe smokers or not is due to wanting pipe tobacco to be made, and sold, so I can buy it. Spoken like a Gen X?

If I see someone with wonky clothes or hair, excessive tattoos, and being visibly below 30 i'd call them a poser and hipster.
