When my Dad wanted to light up another bowl outside on the summer, my mum would roll her eyes but he would claim he was only doing it to keep away the mosquitoes for the family!
I don't recall how well it worked, but my dad was happy enough!

I don't know about mosquitoes, but smoking a pipe outside sure keeps the gnats away, but a cigar works better.

I find that flies are attracted to me as well, but after some testing, I discovered that it was actually my filth that they were attracted to. The pipe smoke actually helped.

I'm pretty sure if it's animal dung you're smoking you may start a fly riot. I guess a better question now is, what about you makes you more attractive to a fly than horse crap.

I'm not sure whether it's the smoke or the tobacco that's attracting flies. Whenever my ashtray has burnt tobacco ash and used pipe cleaners in it, small fruit flies tend to come circling around the area.

No moist anything there?
BTW, Shaun of the Dead is a favorite flick....(2004)
Sometimes the used pipe cleaners can have a little moisture from the pipe.
That's the idea. :)

slow cooking dead flesh

Now we're talking. Slasher movie, or dinner?
Ha. When BBQ ing (hot smoking) you raise the temp of the meat from room temp to 180-190 over many many hours. To a fly that's must smell like a dead animal baking in the hot sun.
I used to think that the smoke would drive them away, but ribs or brisket must smell too good for a fly!
