Are "Drug Store Pipes" really Available at Drug Stores?

The Walgreens here in East Tennessee sell grabow’s for about 30$ And usually have a couple kinds of aromatic tobacco, you find any “high end” tins there but you can smoke for a descent price

I think it depends mostly on how many pipesmokers you have in your area for them to justify shelf space. By account of many members here, many areas just don’t have enough pipesmokers to justify it. But, here in my area, close to so many pipeshops, I can spot other pipesmokers out and about to justify it. While most of us would just visit a pipeshop, but there is still enough of an elderly population that rely on Grabows and OTCs to make a small community drug store worthwhile in keeping a stock.

You won’t find OTCs or Grabows at the pipeshops here, but yet I know of and see them out and about that do smoke Grabows with OTCs to know that they must be getting them somewhere.

The weird thing is that I have noticed that I dont see many cigarette smokers anymore.

This is exactly how it was several months ago at our local Walgreens. No Grabows, only cobs and some pipe cleaners. I'll have to check and see if they still have them next time I go to Walgreens.

I went to our local Walgreens today. They have no cobs, but they do have three Dr. Grabows in blister packs. $35.95 each.

Yeh, crap, I meant to report that I have seen Grabows in two drug stores since this was posted... locally. But, I refuse to buy one.

Years ago they could be found at most drug stores in California. I very rarely see them now. I am in California though, so take it for what you know.

I think pipe shops omit Dr. Grabows because they don't want to undersell their basket pipes and less expensive pipes on the wall. On the other hand, I've seen cobs in a pipe shop, and I surmise the idea is that these are to sell the customer who isn't going to pay forty bucks for a pipe, but might pay $8 and buy some tobacco to go with it.

Drugstores here in Northern New York still sell otc tubs and Grabows, for the most part.

Some of the Walgreen's and Rite-Aid's by me in Michigan carry 1 or 2 Grabow's at a time around $30-$40. They also carry a few OTC blends in pouches like Captain Black at very high prices.
