pipesandcigars had the Stanwell 191 bent bulldog in the Vario series for $59.99. It's out of stock, but will likely reappear. Take a look at that.

Only loser dicks smoke squat Bulldogs... so stay away. They're overpriced wastes of time for the pathetic sad sacks who obtain them. Go for the standard Bulldogs. They're where it's at :D

I have a couple of straight bulldogs, that have saddle stems. I don't like saddle stems that much least of all on a bulldog. I just seems to break up the nice lines of that diamond shank. Tarheel, I love your collection all with straight stems. :worship:
mso, your link took me to a BC pipe, not a Savinelli. But it did remind me that I do have another bulldog! It's a Savinellli Linea 76. I don't know why I didn't think of that, but then all the Sav bulldogs I've seen have the tall narrow bowls, so I don't think of them as traditional bulldogs. The BC pipe however is really nice looking if rather plain, and just my style too.

Oh c'mon now Orley...
You wouldn't say "No" to these would you?

Who says you can't put a saddle on a dog?

One thing I have noticed about the bulldog shape is that in an array of pipes of various shapes in a series, usually the bulldogs go out of stock first. I'm not sure they are the most popular. That may be the billiards. But they nearly always sell fast, so if you find one in your price range and style, better go for it.

The squats go even faster, but yeah, guys who love that shape tend to pull the trigger faster than other shape collectors/aficionados

Sorry Pat, but I still prefer the straight stems... however, that last rusticated pipe did twang my twanger a bit!
I try to stay away from squats, ever since I pulled something doing that at the gym years ago.
Sorry, it seems that my comments may have strayed from the OP's original question. Yes, I do feel that bulldogs sell for a little more than some other traditional shapes. The estate pipes seem to quickly sell for more than I think they're worth, at least to me anyway. But if you've a hankering for one, just keep searching until you find that sweet spot, between what you like and what you can afford.

The Stanwell 32 shape is one of their original designs and has been around for most of a century, and it has a saddle stem. You can like it or not, but it's time tested. It's a good size pipe, light weight for clenching, and a reasonable size bowl. I don't own any squats, though the Dr. Grabow Royalton may verge on it, but they don't make me recoil. I'm just usually looks for a deeper bowl. Johs makes some nice big-bowled bulldogs that aren't overweight.

Quick search on the bay shows all sorts of Bulldogs. Quite a few nice ones for $20ish but that is no guarantee they will end there. Parker, Savinelli, Kaywoodie, etc. Would be nice to know what you are looking for.

peteguy, that's a strange mislabeling of a billiard as a bulldog. One of our fine old online retailers has a Savinelli zulu (shape 404) labeled as a Lovat; now they actually know better, just a late Friday afternoon doing the web site text, I guess.

Post your preferences (vulcanite, acrylic, etc.) and your budget, we'll be happy to give you some examples to consider. Dr. Grabow bulldogs are often under $15 on ebay, on the low end and the sky is the limit on the top end.

Take a look at the Dr. Grabow Royalton bulldog. It's less than $40 new many places. It has a nicely shaped briar bowl and a good acrylic stem. The Savinelli 6 mm adaptor will give you a good draw and eliminate the filter (if that's what you like, as I do). It's a durable pipe, light weight, nicely balanced, and all-in-all a good example of a U.S. factory pipe. tobaccopipes.com often has these.

Thanks for the input everyone! Sorry I haven't responded until now, been really busy with masters work as of late, and haven't had a chance to hop on here.
Excited to see so much input! Thanks for all of your suggestions. As of right now, I just won a no-name dog on eBay for $20. Looks in really good shape, and I really just want to see if I liked the shape in general. I love it visually, but if I don't enjoy smoking with it, then it isn't worth dropping more money on it.
I really love the dark sandblasted look of some bent bulldogs that I've seen. As far as my price point, I don't want to spend any more than $100. And if you can already infer, I don't mind buying used.
Thanks again everyone. And hey, this is my 100th post!
