Arango Briar Pipe Wipe

Even though it seems they went out of business acouple of years ago, I just found this news out. I have been on a hunt to buy up every can I can find (which is only 4 cans). I have been using this stuff for years and had never had a stem turn from oxidation, and it always kept the bowls clean. Sad to see this gone forever.

So soon I will be look for a good replacemnt. I have been told Pledge will do the same thing. Has anyone else heard anything like this? Or should I get one of those Dunhill pipe cloths?

I haven't used pledge but have heard many use it. I understand that you take a clean cloth and spray the shit out of it with pledge and then leave it dry. All the lemon scent evaporates and leaves behind the silicone and wax. Many swear by it.

Are you sure the company went out of business? I was at the NATO show in Vegas several months ago and arango was still selling the briar pipe wipe at their booth. The can even had the label printed on the aluminum. The old cans had a piece of paper for the label.

Interesting. I had read that the company who made it for Arango went out of business. I could not locate a website for Arango, but did send them an email asking of the BPW was discontinued. I hope not.

My local tobacco shop has several cans of the briar pipe wipe. I'm not sure if they are just leftovers, or what though.

When I guess I'm kinda sure they went out of business. I had asked my local shop and few of the internet shops and they all told me the same thing. But if anyone finds some online let me know. Peck that's what I heard too, that you have to let it dry out first just like the briar wipe.

Got one can of pipe wipe left. Luckily it lasts for ages. Then I'll have to find something else for a quick wipe down.

If you read the ingridents on Briar Pipe Wipe there is Beeswax,

Lemon Oil and Mink Oil ... Ok! I will experiment with these

three ingridents in the next few weeks. I will write down the

process and share the results with my brethen pipe smokers.

I welcome and challenge any one else who wants to do the same and

I said that I would share the results on the experiment on the

ingridents of Briar Pipe Wipe.
Here it is ! 3 oz. Beeswax - 1.75 ( 1/2 tin ) Mink Oil

1/2 cup Lemon Oil
Take the beeswax and minkoil and heat it in a ceramic dish or

ceramic sause pot. Heat both ingridents till melted or liguidfied

(DO NOT ALLOW IT TO COME TO A BOIL)

Pour the liquid into a clean glass jar and than add the lemon oil

while the mixture is still in a liquid state, than stir the mixture

with a disposable plastic spoon.

The mixture will solidify and become more like a soft paste.
The results are great ! Take a clean cloth , dab the paste mixture

and rub it onto your pipe and stem . Take another clean cloth and

polish it. The results will speak for themselves.

No, and am not about to. Way too much oil! Wax gives the best shine. Halycon, while expensive, goes a long way if you can't get to a carnauba buffer.

Over the years in the hobby I have heard and read that Favor Furniture Polish was the same as BPW, I don't know if it's true or not. I have 2 cans of the BPW and they are quite old.

I thought I posted to this thread several months ago, but evidently I didn't. Briar Pipe Wipe is nothing more than Favor Furniture Polish with a different label. Trust me, it is Favor. It is not Pledge, it is Favor. And you can take that to the bank.

I'm gonna try this. How do you deal with the lemon scent?

On a side note. The guy who originally owned BPW was the guy who put together the PCI "award winning" collection of large Dunhill fake pipes. I'm sure Hagley was at that show and could give us some thoughts on that group 8O
