Boy, what a pipe. I wanted to just take a second to say that I love the Peterson Junior lovat. My first briar pipe ever was a Junior lovat, and it has given me a real education. It’s so tiny, really punished my early attempts at folding and stuffing Virginias, especially Mac Baren Pure Virginia. I got more pipes and smoked lots of stuff, and learned a bit. Now the little fellow is taking me on some very good tobacco journeys indeed, and I’ve dedicated it to smoking flakes, particularly Virginia and Virginia Perique flakes. I want to know if any of you fine folks have had similar experiences with pipes; ever had a pipe that turns around on you after a little while, or taught you something? I feel like I learn a little bit more with each pipe I smoke, and a little with each tobacco too. Especially this pipe.IMG_6968.jpeg

Thats a nice pipe. My Peterson 309 system spigot did not smoke well when I first got it. Now I can't stop smoking it because its smokes Va/Pers so well. Some Peterson shapes just hit the spot. I think a thread of peoples first pipes would be kinda cool. Mine is a Peterson rusticated Professor that I have dedicated to cherry aromatics.

Yes ! My first two pipes were Peterson 68s -one rusticated and one smooth - they always smoked hot and acrid and taught me I didn't know what I was doing ! I gave them to my nephew who enjoys them now having been taught properly. My Savinelli 2614ks is still with me after 43 years and I learned how to smoke properly with it. Smoking it right now as a matter of fact. My Comoy London Pride taught me how to slow down and sip tobacco.
My Peterson Erica second Xl handmade taught me to appreciate a system pipe. My Peterson Erica XL302 taught me that less is more and how to make a bowl last longer. My Vauen Olaf bent egg in black sandblasted taught me the benefits of a sandblasted pipe for durability and ruggedness. Each pipe is a new learning experience to get it to the sweet zone...

Congratulations on your Lovat ,,, may you enjoy it for many years to come !

First pipe thread is a good idea, an extremely cursory thread title search seems to yield no recent threads of that type! Ripe for the posting!
Thanks for sharing your pipe growth experience, I think sometimes it takes a long long time to zero in on a pipe’s preferred situation, tobacco-wise.

Thank you for the overview of lessons-learned from these different pipes. It must be true, each pipe and tobacco are friends and teachers in their own right.
To the Sweet Zone!

Castello KK 10’s and Pots seem to be the sweet spot for me as far as go to for the pocket, travel and overall performance. Shorter straight pipes in general get the most use from me and I love those Pete’s.
I don’t have one however everyone that does really seems to adore them.
So for a shape / style that grew on me it’s Stubby Pots and especially the KK 10’s
