One thing for the so called relative newcomer to keep in mind is the development of his palate.

I agree that one of the most fun things about the new times (online!) pipe smoker is the experience of variety.

If you smoke several bowls a day, one nice, repeatable and not overly complex blend like a codger blend is nice to have around. The likes of Carter Hall, Prince Albert, Sir Walter Raleigh, or any of a number of similar blends are comfortable favorites for a reason.

SWR is on the short list for sure. Sopped at a B&M that I somehow missed and picked up some baby's bottom, kind of bummed i didn't know about it before I moved, awesome place. Waiting for my other additions to arrive Monday. Still unsure what to smoke for the maiden voyage of my Sav.

Mikey, a lot of folks agree that a good OTC to break in anew pipe with is Carter Hall. Something about it...it builds cake fast and doesn't ghost the pipe. And it's an enjoyable hassle free smoke for a beginner as well.
