It’s far less air than you would think, the hole is somewhere around 1/64”
I’m with RustiePyles and Leonardbill on these. A lot of them are very good briar, and the blasts can be quite nice. Mine have not smoked hot, they do tend to smoke dry. This tendency held even for my first Carburetor, a 70s lacquered ugly. I have occasionally gotten little puffs of smoke from the carburetor, so I know some flow occurs.

As for the stingers, I have never found them to be a problem. Given the diversity of stingers, systems, and tubes, these should not be dismissed as mere gimmicks. Chasing dry smokes was serious business.

I’ll have to find my Yello Bole double carburetor to stir more discussion….

The other pipes I’ve smoked with similar feature: you keep your finger over it during a drag and then release the finger when you inhale…which we don't do with pipes / tobacco. Seems silly to me
