Anyone Know or Have Been On Lortab 10?

My doctor just bump up my lortab intake to 2 or 3 500mg tabs. Now, Just one makes me a drooling moron. What do you think 2 or 3 are going to do to me?
It was a going to be bumping up the lortab or he was going to write me a script for oxycoton or what ever that crap is called.
Lortab helps with pain for about 3 hours, not enough time. Nor sure what else is out there, I think i'm at the last of what i can take as far as pills go. I don't want shots every month.

I shattered my leg real bad about 10 years ago, and the only thing I could tolerate for the pain was either Vicodin or Tylenol with Codeine(sp?) Never taken Lortab, so I can't be of much help to you on that one.

Lortab is my favorite of the narcotics, but I normally take 7.5s. I normally get a little itchy feeling on 10s but they're all good. Norcos are next but they leave me with no inhibitions at all even though there are very few physical side effects. I can't score those unless I'm post surgery, though. They're basically Lortab + morphine. I cant stand Percocet or oxy - I have ridiculous dreams, can't rest, and I feel super weird in my skin. (ah, Lupus is a fun disease... So many pills...)
If the pain is arthritis related, Voltaren gel is THE BOMB. My God I love it and it lasts for a long time. Good luck finding something that helps!
Edited to add: I'm allergic to codeine so the only stuff I know about are straight up opiates.

Please be careful with them, they are addictive, I realize your in pain but take as prescribed and get off of them when the pain is gone. I see alot of people fighting addiction to pain meds.

Pipedisciple - that's a valid comment for people taking them for an injury or post-surgery. However, chronic pain sufferers already fight enough to get the pills without being forced into a pain clinic. I haven't had any narcotics in over a week for two reasons: I ran out and I wanted to be sure I wasn't addicted. I have been on them for years now and I have had no withdrawal symptoms - just pain. Mostly I take them to make myself acceptable to other people. I have the attitude of a pissed off pirahna when I'm in pain. I lose all senses of humor and I can't keep my frustration in check.
Although, my kids ran out of Concerta for 2 days before their monthly psych appt and they were MUCH worse than me. I kept them home both days as a public service. Better an absence than a suspension.

It's for arthritis in my neck from two surgerys and buldging disks in my neck. One of the problems cuaseing migrains everyday if i don't have something. I'll be on something for ever i think. Lortab seems to work ok for a couple hours if i only take one. I took one now and will see if i should take another later.
I won't go through another surgery, i believe that that first two messed me up more. Left me w ith nerve damage in my left arm and pain. Thats been two years ago.

Something else we have in common girl, I can relate re my own 11yo son, sheesh it's a nightmare & I used to be one of the loudest protestors saying, "Pfft, no such thing as ADHD, displine these boys like they should be & all will be fine" - how wrong I was. Did ya know they usually inherit it from their moms, lmfao, mine sure did.
Re chronic pain, muscular and skeletal ... If you can find a graduate of Palmer (Iowa) Chiropractic College who is familiar with and uses the "Toftness" method as a matter of course, do yourself a fave and go to him/her - they DO NOT crack bones, ye gads, that'd be the last thing they'd ever think of doing, and I can guarantee relief. I can't explain how that weird assed little thing works, but it sure as heck does.

I spent two years on pain meds for my back and neck . One day I got to the doc early and saw how messed up the people in the lobby were . I told my self there is a better way , mind over matter . Dont complain about your pain , stand up straight walk it off and learn to live with it . It is ok to have a back up for bad days . But everyday will make it worse in regards pain. Pain causes depression and self loathing which only compounds the pain .Best of luck to you . By the way Loratab 10 with Valium is a good combo for those bad days .

I have a similar struggle with arthritis pain.

I will say from experince that sometimes good old Alleve works wonders.

Also, another item to try is Arnica Root, it vasoconstricts the blood vessels at the

site of inflammation and reduces the amount of histamine and bradykinin that cause pain.
You can get it at stores like Rainbow Blossom, Wal-Mart, Whole Foods.

-- comes in tablets or gel. I use a dime size dollop of gel on my shoulder

and am pain free for 4-5 hours and I don't get the kidney/liver damage provided

by lortab/oxycontin.

I found Oxicontin helped with my chronic pain, but only for a short time before I got used to the dose. I got up to the maximum allowable dose in only a couple of months and the withdrawal symptoms from them were horrific. I am currently using Transtec (Buprenorphine) patches and tablets but they only take the edge off the pain. One doctor at the pain clinic I went to recommended Tapentadol, but I can't get it at the moment as it has been black listed here in the UK. After nearly a years wait, I have another appointment at the pain clinic in January. Hopefully they will be able to suggest something else. In the mean time - have you tried a TENS machine? They can be helpful with some forms of pain relief, so it might be worth seeing if you can borrow one before spending the cash and buying one. It is also said that tobacco can help with pain relief and the relaxation that comes with smoking a pipe can certainly help me.
I hope you get something sorted out that relieves the pain without leaving you feeling like a zombie.

TENS machines are great for back pain. Just set them at the recommended setting and don't try to play Frankenstein and attach the electrodes to your neck. Cause funny facial twitches when turned up to high. Don't ask.

I'd never ever try lortab or any other "pain killer" pill. I've seen way too many people get hooked on them. Plus with all western medicines it only looks to temperoarily curb the symptoms and doesn't fix the root problem. Why else do you think the prescription industry is a multi-billion dollar a year earner? If I messed something up real bad personally I'd go more to yoga/pilates, acupuncture, herbal remedies, possible diet changes etc. Less chance of getting hooked. Plus with yoga/pilates there's a better chance of meeting a single hottie, if you're single yourself. If already in a relationship it's still good window shopping lol.

Cyndi, I would never imply anyone is addicted, I just want people to be careful. Being an addiction specialist, I've seen alot of chronic pain users get addicted,certainly if you have chronic pain, you have to have relief from it and meds is the way to do it. If I have stepped on any toes I am sorry. I have been a counselor for over 20 yrs, it's hard to get out of that mode.

With buldging disks in the neck and arthritis as well you might want to seriously look into a combination of acupuncture and yoga. I know a couple of guys that messed up their back or neck and after a few months of yoga the pain was gone and they felt brand new again.

Just randomly reading this thread, but as someone without a dog in this fight, I'm not on much of anything...other than homebrewed beer, I'd say your opinions and fears seemed very valid and were certainly not offensive. I also don't read that anyone took them that way and, if they did, I would say they might want to examine why they reacted that way to your comments in the first place.
The growth that comes from a free exchange of ideas doesn't work unless all opinions are given a voice!
