All of the Chinese pipes with a metal bowl inserted into the chamber are crap. When I was just starting my second pipe life, I got some of these to try out, and the only thing worse than them are the ones that the entire stummel is made of metal.

That said, I have four Roadtown pipes, and they are all pretty good.

From what I've heard, Muxiang, HS Studio, Roadtown, and C-Pipe are all from the same company.

I knew about the latter three, but it’s not surprising, looking at the current designs—there are some common stylistic approaches across the first three brands.

I used to associate Muxiang with cheap pipes akin to the plastic Chinese pipes with metal chambers for sale on Amazon, but if you look at their website these days, they’ve upped their game. They’ve got some interesting stuff.

I have purchased various Roadtown and HS Studio pipes over the last few years—they’re perfectly fine smokers; with these brands, you can often get “homages” to higher end artisan pipes at a fraction of the cost. Are they at the same finish quality of a Tom Eltang, Werner Mummert, or Todd Johnson? No, of course not. But, you can get a smokable approximation at a tenth of the cost.

I have a Cpipe (the upper tier brand) on the way that I’ll probably post in this year’s Birthday Haul thread if it arrives in time.
