So I've been looking into getting another meer lately. I see Forums members post their Altinay pipes and was wondering what you guys thought of them? Tobacco Pipes is running 10% off of them at the moment and I might go ahead and pull the trigger on one.

I have already an AKB and a SRV. The AKB is a smaller pipe and the airflow isn't the best. I notice the Altinays I looked at on TP say they require 9mm filters. Is that true for all of them?

Thanks to all who leave feedback.

Thanks all, for your feedback so far. I'm somewhat torn between going with Altinay or IMP. At this moment I'm leaning more towards IMP. Hopefully I'll make my mind up soon.

I have several Altinays and I'm very pleased with them...high quality blocks and workmanship. A few are 9mm, which have a very open draft, and in my experience smoke great without a filter or with Falcon filters. A couple of spigots and an army mount that aren't as open as the 9mm's but still smoke very well.

It's difficult to place an order through their site for some credit cards due to "3D verification" (whatever that is). The first few times I had to contact my card company to allow the transaction...the last time I tried it no longer works at all...and the only other option is an international wire transfer which has a hefty fee...so if you see one you like at Tobacco Pipes it'll likely be a simpler transaction.

Me owning only Altinay Meerschaums (no other brand Meerschaum) I would say DO IT, I think they make a great pipe. I have an off the shelve and a commission from them, they are very approachable to discus a commission. I also support the statement a 9mm pipes takes those filters but do not require them to smoke. So if you like a pipe you see, just buy it and smoke without the filter.

I am extremely happy with the smoking quality and meerschaum quality of my Altinay pipe.

1. It has a wide open draw and smokes effortlessly. I realized after reading the posts here that I have a 9 mm filter pipe which I am smoking without the filter.
2. The meerschaum is light, smokes very dry and coloring very fast compared to other meerschaum
3. The shape is perfectly executed
4. I do see some minor blemishes / chisel marks below the surface (As if the pipe was dinged) but it feels very smooth when I rub my finger over it. I am tending to think that these are natural marks beneath the surface which I am being able to see since this is a translucent meerschaum. Regardless, even if these are flaws in workmanship, I don’t mind, given the rest of the qualities

I appreciate everyone's input. Still haven't made my mind up just yet. That's a common problem I have when trying to decide between two things. Difficult to make my mind up.
