Anyone Gotten Rid of PG\chemical taste?

Correction, he loves the flavours, not what they do to his mouth (beyond those two). Poor reading on my behalf

jiminy, I found 2 aromatics that don't dry my mouth and I am sure they have plenty of PG. Who the hell knows how any blend is going to affect out tastes.

its van nelle shag. could be a bad batch could also be due to it being an export, i had only smoked the dutch domestic version before and they are very strict on the additives that can be added there

Van Nelle Shag? Are you shure? I smoked it in my Roll your own cigarettes time. It came in different blue packets, light, medium and dark blue according to its strength. The medium was a half zware shag a proper tobacco for cigarettes, but wouldn’t use the stuff in a pipe.

I take my Carter hall out of the tub, and put it in a glass jar. I take the glass jar and put it somewhere that hair and dust can't get to it. Then leave the lid off the jar for a couple months and revisit.

I’m going to ask a silly question so brace yourself.

Are you 100% sure you are getting the bad taste from the tobaccos or maybe from some deep seated awfulness in the mortise of your pipe that’s just ruining the whole thing for you? Seriously. It’s the one area we’ve all overlooked in cleaning our pipes at least once in our lifetimes and can sneak up on you and present as what you have described

Clean the bejesus out of your pipe shank and mortise and see if it improves anything. Needs doing anyway so nothing to really lose.

yeah 100% ive even smoked it from cigarete paper same taste. i tried mixing with some cheap tobacco i got thats very bland and its smokable, not good though idk if ill keep smoking it

If you smoke to heavily, or a lot of fast puffing, you can irritate your mouth, and simply get later, a metallic taste, because of your mouth being irritated is all, or from a cold, congestion, etc.

If I smoke lattakia blends really fast and heavy, my mouth will get irritated and I can get a metallic taste later.

ill try that its mostly a metalic sour and chemical like aftertaste almost like i want to rinse my mouth after smoking its kind of gross but not so bad i wanna throw it out. might try airing it out as others have suggested

I used to mellow the humectants and aromatizers out of McClelland aromatics by dumping them in a brown paper sack and shaking it over the course of two weeks or so. The brown paper absorbs the prop glycol and the flavor mellows considerably so you can taste the burleys etc underneath.

Yep full strength it was my favourite when i only smoked cigaretes, i smoke mostly in pipes now

thats great to hear. ill definetly try that. im not sure if its my imagination but i dont remember this taste being their at all until the last week or so. ive had it stuffed in a jar for a couple of months with very little air. i assumed it just took me a while to notice it and then it became really obvious to me. but it could have developed other time or made worse by the storage idk

Washing mashing, regular or permanent press (for plugs) cycle but only use cold water and unscented detergent. Oh and air dry.

I avoid it at all costs. I can taste it. Ever have an auto heater core with a slow coolant leak. When you have it on defrost it can slime your windshield a bit but you'll also smell and taste it. Sweet slime with a ongoing bitter aftertaste. Your lips will feel oily too. Same when it's slathered all over tobaccos...mostly the aros. And those tobaccos that never ever dry out.

If it tastes bad enough, then I disagree with the other advice to try it in all your pipes. Just throw the damned stuff out already.

Its very similar to the taste of cheap rolling paper. i cant describe it much better than that. i think its worth trying to save it. i just put it in a cardboard box to air out as someone said it can take the chemical taste away

its very similar to the taste of cheap rolling paper. i think its from some kind of humectant, as it doesnt get dry. It was actually nice tasting before, but i kept it stuffed in a jar with very little oxygen and it got this taste. im airing it out now in cardboard box so i think theres a chance i might be able to save it

Hell, just use motor oil to keep tobacco moist. At least we know what it is.
