I was too excited to start using a straight razor when I first shaved my 8 month old beard. Picked up an entry level one, but unfortunately I decided to let my beard grow again before using it even once

Yes, but haven't in some time. I liked it when i had more time i the mornings. The closeness can not be beat, so it still gets used on special occasions.

I thought those were for street fights! They can be used for shaving?
Seriously though I would love one but hell I cut my self with saftey razors probably bleed out in the bathroom if I used a cut throat razor.

I used a straight razor for awhile back in the 70’s. Even though I have a beard, which isn’t a full beard and I keep it trimmed very short so I obviously have to shave to keep it that way. Gave up long ago with using a straight razor and have been using the disposable blades as shaving for me is nothing but a necessary shore which I wish to get done as quickly, and with as little effort as possible.

I look kind of like my avatar, so no I don't use one. Nor do I use a disposable or electric.

Safety razors for me. Thinking about looking into an electric. Have owned 5 or 6 over the years, and if the new ones are further improved, I might get one. Shaving takes ca. Five minutes.
Nice collection, but not for me; straight blades seem to call for more attention than I am willing to give to the task.

I have been looking at straights for quite some time, but haven't taken the plunge yet. I have a few old Gillette Super Speeds and a Fatboy, and a Schick Injector that I use the most. If anyone is on the fence, PM me and I will send out a workhorse Super Speed that has been collecting dust, and some blades.

Most definitely there is a learning curve, just like learning the ins and outs of smoking a pipe. If the razor is sharp, as in it can pass the HHT (hanging hair test) it really isn't bad. Dragging a hair perpendicular to the blade, the hair should cut all along the shaving surface from the heel to the point of the blade. The most difficult areas are the chin and the upper lip. When I first started all I would shave was my cheeks and neck. Once I had done that for a week I then moved to the chin and upper lip. Yup, I did nick myself a few times and used the styptic pencil for the nicks. The most dangerous thing is shaving with a dull blade. That is where you can really cut yourself because the blade will stick and hang, and if you are not careful, well.

Administrators, I apologize for posting this here. I should have posted in the off topic area of the forum. Just was kind of curious. It seems that beards and pipes are synonymous and wondered if this archaic way of shaving was also in the mix. Please move or delete as necessary.

I go back to the old double-edged safety razors, which I took to the Navy not knowing if I'd have electric outlets at every duty station. Mostly that did the job. In later years, I'd alternate to electric when household health situations made time extremely limited. Now I'm mostly using cartridge razors, the good ones not the cheapies, but not the electric vibrating ones either. I've thought of going back to double-edged safety, but I'm not sure I have the time or presence of mind. Sometimes I feel like I have to make an appointment with myself to shave and brush my teeth. So no straight razors for me. I always piss myself off when I do even a small nick. More lost time, and it looks pathetic. Sometimes I use an electric when time is extra short.
