Anybody here into motorcycles? Last year I bought a 2016 iron 883. I love it. All my bikes prior to were sport bikes and I found myself wanting to ride further but the comfort wasn't there. I thought the Harley would be more comfortable for the long haul but boy was I wrong. Luckily it can be upgraded to semi-touring. Perfect for me since I only get a couple hours a week to ride right now but when things settle down I'm going all out on a touring hog.

Many years ago....
I rebuilt a 1982 Yamaha Midnight Maxim 650 that the owner abandoned. Never again :) it was a shaft driven, 4 cylinder motor with 4 separate carburetors.

There are alternatives to a Harley that are very comfortable touring bikes. I ride an Indian Roadmaster for touring-- very classy comfortable bike and even a bit more power than the comparable Harley.

True. Before the stroke I was...ah...heavily into scoots. Only good picture I have of an Indian is my brother on his.

I disassembled a Honda 90 with no clue how to put it together. Dad told me I think too much,

hobie1dog: I feel it. I never missed bowling until I realized I couldn't do it anymore. I had no coordination for a cycle, so best I laid off.

I ride pretty much every day. I've had most types, but I generally go for long distance touring bikes. I have a 2017 Ultra Limited for REALLY long distance touring, and a 2003 Heritage Springer for more local stuff, but still with lots of storage space.
I'm old and fat and tend to choose comfort over speed.

I've always loved those HD Heritage Springers, beautiful RobertW!
I've had my MC license since I was 16 and always had a bike, up until two years ago. I had Triumphs, an '02 America and a '66 Bonneville. We bought the MGB two years ago, the wife enjoys that more, so I sold both bikes. One day, when I have more free time, I'll get another (Adventure bike this time). The MG is fun, but I miss the bike.

I loved the look of the Iron 883 since they came out, but I'm scared that if I go take one for a test ride I'll end up spending money I shouldn't. How does it ride?

No, all modern electronics on the new ones. Mine had carbs, but the new Bonnevilles are fuel injected and water-cooled. I put 90,000 miles on my 02 with zero issues (or trips to the dealer).

My last bike was a Triumph Bonny with carbs. It was a fine bike but dangerous in the Cornish lanes, which are often wet and narrow and cars around every blind bend. There are also metal cattle grids and iron utility access plates everywhere on the road that are very slippery when wet. So a few years ago I traded up for a BMW R1200R which I ride most every day to work, rain or shine. ABS and traction control is a must for high traffic Cornish lanes. In the next year or two I'm planning to get a R-Nine-T. Same engine but a little bit more compact of a bike.

Old Cajun, I, too ride a Valkyrie Tourer. 150k miles on her. Get you a trike conversion....
Never again [:)] it was a shaft driven, 4 cylinder motor with 4 separate carburetors.
The Valk has 6 cylinders and carbs, and is shaft driven. It's like cramming a car motor in your crotch.
It's my sole transportation. Water cooled is a must in Texas if it's your only ride. An air cooled V-twin may be fine on the weekend 2-lane roads, but a few weeks of rush hour standstill at 110 degrees and air cooled motors melt.

I ride a Vespa 150cc Primavera as a work commuter. Top speed is 60mph but plenty for navigating the back roads. Plus it's just fun.
