EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9)

Some recent mystery ailments have unfortunately left me at laying off of pipe and cigar smoking entirely. So I’m wanting to get into my other hobby involving leaves: tea.

I’m most interested in Oolongs, but will definitely welcome any other tea knowledge and recommendations. I have a gaiwan and a couple of nice Oolong teas but looking to get some more. If anyone knows of any tea forums, that would be some great time-wasting for me too.

I’m a fan of all teas. My favorites are black tea for my iced tea and Earl Grey for my hot tea. Drinking tea paired with a pipe is where it’s at.

I haven’t gone too far down the tea rabbit hole but it’s got a community similar to ours just much smaller. I also love a smoked tea called Lapsang Souchong, it’s strong and smokey, pairs well with a dark flake.

A friend of mine sent me a box of rare, obscure teas, some are pressed into cakes, some have really wild preparation techniques, I’m still experimenting with a lot of them.

I do enjoy Oolong quite a bit too!

(sorry, I somehow missed that you were laying off the pipe. Hope you return to good health soon, partner.)

Here's a thread that was started in 2013 and brought back to life in 2019. You may find it interesting.

As for me, I drink about 3 cups of green tea every morning. I purchase all my tea from Harney & Sons...always free shipping on every order.

Oh yeah!!! Lapsang Souchong is becoming a favorite of mine.
I’m thinking “if I can’t pronounce it, what chance do I have of brewing it?” ?

Hey, not to deviate from topic, but since we’re talking about tea, do y’all get nauseous if you drink tea on an empty stomach? I always do. Someone tried to tell me it was the caffeine, but I can drink a whole pot of black coffee on an empty stomach and be fine. ?‍♂️

I once visited a tea shop that was part tea vendor part medicine woman / witch doctor, lol. The proprietor was talking to me about green teas and I commented that some I love and some tastes like it came from a fishbowl. She told me she could tell my blood type from that comment and said she’d make me samples of both Japanese and Chinese grew teas. Said she’d tell me exactly which one I’d pick before I’d even tasted them. Damned if she wasn’t right on all accounts.

This lady would blend medicinal teas for aches and pains, relaxation, inflammation, etc. Again, she was surprisingly good at it and the teas were great.

I really enjoy Prince of Peace brand Oolong. Tasty stuff!

Don’t know the first thing about tea, unless it’s plain old sweet tea over ice. I do like Earl Gray occasionally, too. Sorry to hear about your health issues though. Hopefully you get it sorted out quickly and uneventfully.
Thank you, hopefully whatever is going on is just temporary and I can get back to smoking my beloved tobaccos soon! I also love Earl Grey, it's what I drink every morning. Found it to be really nice with Balkan blends as well. Liked the citrus of the Earl Grey complimenting with the smokey/incense on a Balkan, GLP Quiet Nights comes to mind.

love tea. My favorite oolong was called four seasons from taiwan. Not sure where to get it these days. But it's really incredible.
I just looked it up, sounds really nice. Looks like there's several online tea stores selling Four Seasons Oolong. I sampled a tea at an Oolong shop with a similar make-up of this and it was really delightful.

Thank you for the well wishes, I hope so too! I love Earl Grey as well! Earl Grey with a good balkan is so good.

I really need to try some Lapsang Souchong, will check that out a bit further.

The world of Oolong is really interesting to me! I've seen some of those cakes you're talking about, indeed very cool. I've found that brewing Oolong in a gaiwan is a lot like smoking a pipe. There's many steps to brew it correctly, some people get very deep and methodical with it and really meditate on the tastes.

I definitely have to wait until I eat some food to drink my morning cup of Earl Grey, or else my stomach gets knotted up for sure. I try to time my breakfast and Earl Grey to be ready at the same time, a bit of a tricky task but worth it.

That is interesting. I personally don’t. If anything, tea usually calms my stomach.

I forgot to mention I love Yerbe Mate too! Lights me up like a Christmas tree!
I love Yerba Mate! It seems to give me a really focused energy. I would always show up to my longer studio sessions with a few bottles of Yerba Mate.

That ground green tea, I think it’s called Matcha? That stuff tastes like it was brewed in a fishbowl to me! Haha weird. I wonder if that has something to do with my blood type? I’ve also heard it depends on the grade of the green tea it’s made from and the oxidation process but I’m not sure about all that. I’ve tried it from 3 different sources, all tasted fishy.
