I know we all love pipesmagazine.com, but do many of you still read regular magazines. Do you subscribe, or just pick one up from time to time?
I have subscribed to a few over the years, mostly because of my kids, or grandkids for school support or what ever. And I used to pick one up at a store or news stand too. But currently I do subscribe to two that I renew all the time because I've found them to be something that I like to read when I just feel the need for a short article or story that is really interesting to me.

The two are: Smithsonian, and Oxford American. I always have one on my nightstand, or, yeah, by the john. I still like the feel of paper and the great art and photos that are contained in real magazines compared to on line stuff. I know, my age is showing again...

I used to have subscriptions to various mags like Astronomy, Discover, and Time, but often these days I don't have the time to read them. And I get enough mail where I'm reluctant to add to the pile, and mags are getting plain expensive. And magazines like Time make me furious these days, reading about how the planet is going to hell in the proverbial hand basket, that it has become an exercise in anger inducement, especially during presidential election years. Cable news is getting almost as bad: I mean, a police officer gets shot 17 times in the head? So I don't subscribe to printed magazines anymore, and I don't watch cable news for weeks at a time.

Absolutely! The two I currently subscribe to are WWII History (history nut) and Mental Floss, which is always an entertaining read. I recently gave up my subscription to Aviation History because, after about 10 years, it started to get a little repetitive in its articles. Over the years I have been a subscriber to Popular Mechanics, Nat'l. Geographic, Smithsonian, Time, The Week, and probably a couple others I can't recall. I'm with you- actually turning pages kind of "makes" the whole reading experience.

OK, so how many of you fellows got the Swimsuit Issue of Sports Illustrated? I nearly had a coronary when my eyes passed over the cover while I was in the drug store last month.

I don't know if NASPC's The Pipe Collector counts as a magazine but I'm a charter subscriber to P&T and Cigar Aficionado.

I also subscribe to European Cigar Journal, Cigar Snob, Cigar Press and Cigars&Spirits Magazines. 8O

I was a subscriber to the sports illustrated swimsuit edition for about 30 minutes. My mother made sure that lasted for about 32 minutes. That ended about 30 years ago.

I currently subscribe to Model Railroader, Wood, Muzzle Blasts and The Backwoodsman. I agree there is nothing like a paper magazine.

The Pipe Collector - I get the email edition (PDF) and print it to enjoy from my smoking chair.
Road & Track and Car & Driver - I've been subscribed to each for at least 25 years.
I tried reading the car magazines on my Kindle Fire, but hated magazines in that format. (same for my local newspaper)

I don't currently subscribe to anything,

but I've always been a huge paper magazine fan.
Haven't bought any as of late but used to go to the newsstand to get

Retro Cars

Classic & Sports Car

Thrasher

Transworld Skateboarding

Concrete Wave

Raw Vision

Juxtapoz

Art in America

The Economist

Dwell

The Wire

The Comics Journal

etc etc
...but lately have only been buying old pre-war British magazines.

I started out in electronic publishing because I was appalled by paper waste. That was before I saw how much other waste the world generates, and at a time when computers lasted for a decade because technology was not moving so quickly driven by bloat and user herd stupidity. I got used to reading everything online. This has not applied to books, but it has cleared out my desire for magazines, which represent metric tons of stuff to haul to recycling.

I used to love magazines, until they became booklets of advertisements. I still subscribe to a few, P&T, NASPC, and Renaissance Faires and Festivals. These 3 still, in my opinion, provide good articles, interesting stories, some historical writings, and the advertisements don't detract from their content. I'm sure there are others, but these 3 are the ones I'm happy to pay for. I also subscribe the The Baker Street Journal, which is always entertaining and filled with great stories.
