I'm only asking this to see what everybody's experiences about this are. I have not noticed any reduction in my taste or smell during, my admittedly short period of pipe smoking.

I'm not the overly health concerned type, but dulling my sense of smell sounds like it would suck. If you have any ideas or such please write them, I would appreciate it!

Smell is taste, taste is smelling. Can you taste when you have a cold? Probable not. Too closely related. Also, that jibes with retro haling, and tasting the tobacco even MORE. Practice this method, and you'll get more of the 'bacca taste rather than ash-e-ness...

My sense of smell is dramatically reduced for about 24 hours after smoking.
If I did smoke every day it would help me stop snacking and lose weight, so in terms of health benefits I might even be able to say smoking every day could save my life since bad diet will kill me far before anything else.

Sometimes I nod off to sleep while I'm smoking, then wake up, and realise I've been sitting there happily inhaling away.
Maybe that affects my taste for a while, but not smell.
Surprisingly, don't feel any the worse for inhaling though.

Fred Hanna was both a pipe smoker and a sommelier. That pretty much answers that.

I think that we can distinguish between immediate and long term impact:
If you're heavily retrohaling dense smoke, I expect that it briefly blows out some capacity there.
But the long-term impact seems to be the opposite. Pipe smokers' palates often grow more sensitive over the years.

After a smoke it takes me a few minutes to reverse to factory settings. If I've been overindulging, maybe half an hour.
Apart from that, no.
Actually I think the opposite. Not that I think smoking sharpens the senses, but all the reading of reviews in the beginning and the attempts at discerning various flavours in tobacco have made me more aware of flavours in food and drink than I was before.

Yes, my sense of smell is severely reduced by pipe smoking, depending upon how much I smoke, of course. But cigarettes, which I quit smoking many years ago, were just as effective at reducing the sense of smell, as far as I remember. Common knowledge, I suppose.

Nope. Can't say smoking a pipe has adversely affected my sense of taste or smell (I typically smoke 4-5 pipes a day and usually 2 or 3 different blends if that makes any difference).

I believe that I actually have temporarily had alterations in my taste, but I think that was also more prevalent when I was less "skilled" and more susceptible to tongue bite. Incidentally, many months back when this was more likely to happen, I was talking to a pipe smoking acquaintance and I asked him about the same thing - any changes to your taste? He affirmed that he had had some changes and it concerned him but he was enjoying the pipe to much to give it serious consideration. I have not had changes to my sense of smell, other than I can't seem to "smell myself" and the residual smoke on me at the time. My smell of everything else seems to be great.

Actually I would say the opposite but I gave up 2 packs a day for the pipe. Can smell and taste things I haven't in years. Which honestly isn't always a good thing??‍♂️?
one of the fun things with quiting cigs and getting back that sense of smell is realizing how terrible cigs smell. Like noticing when a cig smoker walks into a room from just the smell. That oh god is that how I used to smell?

Smoking a bowl or two a day, sometimes none, I haven't noticed any diminution of smell or taste.
