Sorry, Kenny G isn't jazz. 99 percent of my music collection is jazz and I was a jazz musician before I got married 5 years ago and had to pay real bills. Piano and guitar.

Years ago while working at a (now closed) tobacco store in Omaha I would always play Thelonius Monk albums. We could smoke while working, so the combination of jazz and smoke (good quality, too!) made for what I felt was a great atmosphere.

Johnny Hartman is a great jazz vocalist who really doesn't get his due...he made many fine albums on his own but check out the 1963 recording he did with John Coltrane called "John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman"...it's a true classic

@bryanf - Kenny G isn't my cup of tea either, but definitely still jazz!
@balcifer - I was at that festival! Didn't get to see much, my Steelband was in the Montreal Steel Pan Festival going on that same weekend so I was pretty busy.
@grumpynuts - Monk is one of my favorites. Most of my piano lessons in undergrad were on Monk. Fun to play, although I enjoy it more on vibes!

Saw the Dave Brubeck Quartet - DB, Paul Desmond, Eugene Wright, and Joe Morello - perform at an intimate theater in the round in Totowa, NJ back in 1963. Was able to walk right up on the stage and greet the musicians. Had each of them autograph my program. Saw the quartet perform later on at Carnegie Hall when they made their live recording there. Was a big fan at the time - over 25 albums. My favorite was always "It's a Raggy Waltz."
Later, as a young dumbass, I gave the program away to a girl friend... :crying:

Anyone ever heard of a guitarist named Raul Midón. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raul_Midón
Several years ago my wife and I were staying at the same hotel as Raul and his wife and we had a long chat over drinks. Since then we have become fans of this blind guitarist with an unusual style.
