Hey everybody, I'm bran spanikn' new to this site and pipe smoking in general, I've had a hankering to take it up for a while now and have spent the last few weeks reading through this forum, and all kinds of other blogs and sites on the subject and i'm getting really excited to start! the problem is i have basically no money... seriously.
anyway, i read a bunch of the which pipes to start with pages, and i want to get a decent one to start, i found this online and am in LOVE with the look, but i'm worried because i can't find any info on the brand
i figure for $60 bucks it should be a relatively good pipe, but i'm hesitant to drop that kinda money on an unknown brand.
so if you have any info on it, anything at all it would be awesome!

Hi Superdan and welcome. Price isn't always an indication of quality. It they didn't think enought of it to name it, I wouldn't touch it. For $60 you sould be able to get a decent pipe. I and others have made suggestions here. Take a listen, we've been at it a while. You might want to ask members to suggest something. Hope you find the right one.

Having seen those German pipes first hand I would NOT pay that price for one. Pick up a Savinelli, or a mid range Peterson and save yourself lots of disappointment . Though it may seem expensive a name brand pipe will last a long time. One of my Petersons was made around 1938 and is still a good little pipe.

German made? 9mm filter? A Vauen more than likely.

I have no affiliation with this site except for being a satisfied customer:
http://www.thesmoker.com/pipepages/peterson1.html

His order link is not working and you must call him if you want to order a pipe. He won't be around this weekend as he is attending the C.O.R.P.S show in Richmond, Va.

I totally agree with unclearthur & chuck; a Peterson. You should be able to pick up a Peterson's for around that price and you will have the knowledge that the pipe is a decent one.
By the way, a big welcome to the forums, and good luck with what ever pipe you choose.

So i think i figured it out, I'm pretty sure it's made by a company called Design Berlin, it's part of their "campus" series or something like that. does anybody have any experience with this brand.
I'm not trying to knock the advice you guys have given me, but like i said i love the look of this pipe, and haven't quite found any others i like as much so I'm trying to find any excuse to buy it lol

If I read the description correctly, it has a 1" diameter tobacco chamber.

That's WAY too big for a newbie. You may be in love with the shape, but

you're setting yourself up for disappointment; and the tragedy of it will be

that you won't know what the problem was. That's my 2¢.

[I just had an update post evaporate into cyberspace, so excuse the possible dupe here...]

Marty Pulvers is off on his annual buying spree and won't be available for about a month.
