I thought I'd use an older thread to ask members about their knowledge of any historic books of any kind that might include photos or info about early St Louis tobacconists. I have many of this type of book but not much on tobacco shops. Thanks folks.

@Tinner I was going to reply on the other thread but here will do. I spoke with my Gram today, she's 91 and used to run a tobacco shop at the entrance to Famous Barr downtown on Olive Street near Grand Avenue called Moss and Lowenhaupt. She said that there was also one at Macy's and the Jost stores were the "big boys". They were he main competition. It was good to talk to her about it. She broke her hip a few weeks back and has been recouperating, and she lit up as she talked about it. How she missed her "regulars" and how they all would come in just to say hi. "Those were the days" she said... I bet.
also to answer the original thread question.
Lucky that's a nice story, thanks. I can imagine being in such shops during the 50's & 60's. I think my next step will be the library like daveinlax suggested. I've never been to the old St Louis City Library. It had a big renovation a couple years ago. I looked at the John Dengler website, and plan to check it out. :D
