I’m a fan of orlik golden sliced and Peterson 3p in the summer. 2 great, smooth blends. I’ve also been making my own navy plugs lately, 100% va’s cases with aged rum and a touch of honey, and I find these a fantastic summer smoke as well, as long as they are properly dried out. The plug below is one I made, probably about 4 oz right there.

Dan Tobacco's Salty Dogs is really doing it for me

I think this might be the best VaPer on the planet. I just bought a ton of it from Esterval's and I am so glad I did.

I’ve through about trying Salty Dogs but is it worth the price compared to other plugs? Seems like a pricey one.

Here's how I see it:

A pipe for me is 1.3 grams
50 grams of Salty Dogs can be acquired for 20.00 USD, that's 38 smokes for me, or 52 cents per smoke.
Cigarettes cost like 10 USD (California) a pack so this, albeit expensive tobacco when compared to some pipe tobaccos, is approximately equivalent to 1 cigarette in price. It has been decades since I smoked a cigarette but if I recall, I got about 10 minutes from one.
I get about an hour out of my 1.3 grams.

Oh, and the experience is so much more enjoyable. Yes, it's a pricey one but dang, if you can get your hands on some you should give it a try. If you can't, give me a holler and I will hook you up(if you are stateside). puffy I have some to spare. :)

Just tried Stokkebye's Luxury Twist Flake. If there's a VA flake that screams summertime louder, I haven't heard it yet! That toasted coconut flavor would pair perfectly with a tiki drink and an ocean breeze! Gonna try mixing it with a couple coins of GH Sweet Coconut Twist for a little extra kick. Maybe even a pinch of something rummy for a cocktail in a pipe????

Some of my favorite light Virginia's that are readily available. Some have perique, one has a little Kentucky, but none are over powering and they are a regular part of my rotation.
Capstan Blue Flake
Peterson -used to be Dunhill Flake
Solani 660 Silver flake ina Virginia/Kentucky but not over powering
Solani 633 is a great Virginia/Perique blend that is superb fresh or aged
If you run across these in your travels, jump on them.

Fribourg & Treyer Cut Virginia Plug, SPecial Brown Flake and Vintage Flake
Wessex Gold Virginia Flake, Gold Slice
John Aylesbury Classic Flake ( once named Luxury Flake.

I in constant summer here in Florida so all of these are in my regular rotation.

Good Afternoon Gents,

Looking for a good tobacco blend for summer months. Something not too heavy. I also try to steer clear of a strong tongue bite, but a lot of that has to do with how hot I smoke the bowl and not the tobacco. Not into fruity tobaccos, either. Chocolate, nut, vanilla notes all welcome. Aromatic or non-aromatic, doesn't matter to me. The smoother the better!

Looking forward to hearing what you guys are packing.

Thank you All!

- AJ
It's usually hot in FL. During the day I usually smoke Royal Yacht, C&D Burley #3, and OGS in that order. Curious to see what others post.

Like many on here, I really like a good tasty straight Va or VaPer in the summer. Lately, though, I've really been enjoying Watch City's "Watch City Slices", which would check all the boxes for you. I get a ton of chocolate and nutty notes from it, with a bit of vanilla as well. I enjoyed a bowl earlier today when it was about 100 out (in Tucson in June that's a cool day!).

Rimboche S.J., Russ O.'s Country Gentleman, and Pease's Montgomery. All tangy VAs. I'll also burn some haunted bookshop on hot days, in a smaller pipe.

...strange enough, I am now smoking C&D Apricot with a healthy pour of Woodford Reserve...and it is unexpectedly a very good combo!

I tend toward light English, Balkan, Orientals mostly, but do enjoy the occasional aromatic. Dug the apricot deep out of the cabinet tonight for some reason...??‍♂️
