I prefer sandblasted or rusticated briar. Posella has a very interesting and attractive rustication that caught my eye - but there is little info on them…..

Hi steelman, Posella comes from a family of “segantini” (briar producers) and he uses his own “family briar” to make the pipes. So the wood is more than good and it’s 100% from Calabria. I own one of his pipes and I find it fantastic. It does smoke very well and its finish is hypnotic. If in doubt..buy one. Here is mine.IMG_9367.jpeg

I think Posella briar is good and dry and should produce excellent smokers. However I have examined many Posella pipes and more often than not, I found the draft holes to be drilled on the "high" side. Of course many smokers are not concerned about whether draft holes are drilled flush with the bottom of the bowl but for those who are, careful examination of draft hole placement might be a good idea prior to purchase.
