In the semi-rural NorthEastern USA
if you live here you can get your lawn registered as some kind of butterfly habitat or something. 90 percent of them seem to be in the "you had me at don't have to mow my lawn".. in my opinion. If you're local does a thing like that, it would be my suggestion.

Tom, why not go the eco route and buy a goat? Tether it to a large tyre that you move every day and bingo.

It fertilizes as it mows the lawn and once fat enough you can eat it, then you buy another .

Jay.

On the farm we had Tetley, and she ate EVERYTHING & ANYTHING, plus she gave us twin kids every year which we fattened & ate.

Very friendly animals and nowhere near as dumb as sheep or cattle.

Regards,

Jay.

Goats are ideal in some situations. They can clear out stands of poison ivy with no ill effects on the goats. I think they work best where they have a home base farm where they can be sent out a few days at a time for non-goat-owners. They seem to like most stands of scrub and brush.

I was going into a little Chinese food buffet near work in a research park, with intermittent farms, and a little goat kid came clip-clopping up to greet me. I was so charmed with the little guy, I picked him right up and bounced him a bit while he ate my necktie. I think he lived at an adjoining small farm.

I'm still in the hunt for a mower. I'll probably get one and see how it goes. Lawn crews cost so much, and want to be put on contract for weekly visits, and often don't have good English so I'm not sure what I'm buying, that if I could get a few summers out of an electric mower, it would be a savings.

Something happened to me today that restored a bit of my faith in humanity: a couple young boys came up my street pushing a mower and trying to make some money. They were very polite to me. I hope they got some business.

I was reading today California is phasing out gas cars and by 2035 they’ll all be electric.

My bet is in ten years not one soul will buy a new gas car, anyway.

We’ll live to hear our grandkids ask us what was a transmission.:)

4 cents a mile to operate, no whirling pistons, no transmission and quiet as a ghost.

I don’t want to even ride in an electric car, until I’m ready to buy one.

It would spoil a feller, you know?
