An antique store recently opened in my neighborhood.I took a trip there today.I thought maybe I could find a deal on some pipes. They didn't have any.I passed on a couple of old Prince Albert tins for 12 bucks each..And to think that grandpa used to throw them away.

$12 each for the empty tins? Do you recall what grandpa paid for full tins back then ?

Makes me wish I had a time machine, if only to zoom forward, sell a few empty tins, then zoom back and buy 10 times as many full ones with the cash

An environmentally sound recycling program.
Just think of the things we throw away today that will make our grandchildren wonder.

Get some info on those old tins as there are some pretty rare one's to be found at some antique shops. One really nice book on the subject with price guides is a soft cover book titled TOBACCO TINS a Collector's Guide by Douglas Congdon-Martin. The photography is superb and it's a nice piece of research material.

This goes back a ways but it happened to me and quite a few of the northeastern pipe community knew about it and can confirm.
I was told by a friend about an antique shop that had some pipes for sale. I went down there and there was really nothing special, a Dr. Grabow and some no name pipes with fills but I gave the guy $10 for good will and told him to call me if he got any others in.

About 2 months later he calls and says he has a bag of pipes if I was interested. I went down and he handed me an A&P bag to look through. The first one I pulled out was a patent date Dunhill Churchwarden with AD sterling band. I pulled out another Dunhill, a Sasieni 4 dot, a couple others. At the bottom of the bag I pulled out a Dunhill Magnum Pot shape from the 1930's. The guy tells me the case was in there and sure enough it was. And a second Dunhill Magnum, the more common bent shape.
He tells me he wants $300 for the bag, I paid and left. I was on the phone to Rob Denholz as soon as I got in the car. You never know what you'll find in those small shops.

Yeah, sort of like winning the Superbowl in your rookie year, all downhill from there...
