+1 on everything said here . I don't believe it has anything to do with the cake . I am a believer in the dryness of the tobacco and the way you pack it . :puffpipe:

Outstanding clip there, misterlowercase.

Robert Young is one of my favorites. And that scene is classic.

Notice how just the barest of wisps emerge from the pipe, and yet it never goes out.

I'm not sold on cake having anything to do with staying lit

Cake is great for a birthday party, but not essential to keeping a pipe lit. As others have stated, it's packing, cadence, proper moisture level in the tobacco, and knowing your pipe.
With my favorite pipes I can place a lit pipe in my pocket for 10 minutes if I need to pop into a store to pick up something, and have it going with a couple of draws when I'm back in the open, with no relight. Some pipes just don't stay lit. But relighting isn't an issue for me. I smoke for pleasure and relaxation, not to prove anything.

Great clip there, misterlowercase. Man, I can only wish for the day I can keep the pipe in my mouth for that long without salivating a waterfall and being able to talk without inhaling and dropping the pipe.

Put my pipe in my pocket for ten min without it going out! Now I have a new goal in life. I'm still working on 10 seconds. :)
