When I did my taxes online this year, I got the news that I was supposed to get a nice refund from the state.
Of course I started shopping for a new pipe. Had some ideas, but never pulled the trigger - was waiting for the refund to show up.
Then I got a letter from the state Treasury Department. It boiled down to "Sorry, there was an oops - you are only going to get about 10% of what you thought you were going to get."
Well, easy come, easy go.
I pulled the trigger on a new Ropp Vintage, instead. I have two - one a Vintage Classic. I really like the horn stems. This Liverpool is on the way.

Still on my bucket list! How's the horn stem?

I love mine. I would say that it feels more like acrylic than vulcanite, but probably a tad softer than acrylic. Also "smoother" which seems weird since acrylic is polished ultra-smooth... but something about this feels even smoother.

But bear in mind that when I "clench" I just hang the bit under my top teeth and rest the stem on my lower lip... I don't bit down.
When it "clanks" against my teeth I get the sense that it's like a soft acrylic.

I wouldn't bite down on the horn. I doubt it would hold up to much pressure.

I love it! I’ve been wanting a vintage with bone stem. You are an enabler. ✌️

I couldn’t stand it. Mine should arrive tomorrow! What‘s your first smoke going to be?

That's extremely cool. Some of my fellow "lifers" really like those horn stems from Ropp. I don't have a Vintage, just an Etudiant bent poker sitter, but it's a winner.

Probably Lane Ready Rubbed. I am a firm believer in breaking in pipes with fairly neutral tobaccos that I know very well. Lane RR fits that bill. I have smoked three tubs of this lovely stuff, and have a good start on tub 4. (I've got 2 more tubs of this now discontinued gem.

I loved RR too. Wish I had stocked up. Have you tried the Sutliff match? I have ordered some. Fingers crossed. I will probably go with SWR for my first Ropp smoke.

I bought a Vintage and a Superior several years ago when they first came out, and they have sat unsmoked since.

They are nice looking and well made pipes, and a great value for the price.

I have a couple and like them very much. The horn feels like it almost 'flexes' if you clench it harder.

My one annoyance is that the delrin tenon came loose on both of them, and I had to epoxy them back in.
