cosmicfolklore, after reading your simple yet touching eulogy for your uncle my heart is heavy. I will think of you both as I smoke this evening. May this time pass smoothly and leave you with only happiness for the opportunity you were given to share life with someone as special as your uncle.

Next bowl to Uncle Joe, yours and mine, who was also a big influence on my life, will be from a Ropp Cherrywood and it will be the only cherry scented/flavored blend I have, Sutliff April Dawn.

May he rest in peace. We lost the last pipe smoker in our family about 15 years ago. Like you, my Thanksgiving wasn't complete until Uncle Bruce walked into the room with his pipe and Nimrod lighter.

Thank you all, I am moved by your posts.

Bulldog, my condolences as well. I'm so very sorry.
I could have gone on and on about Uncle Joe. He was also one of the first Coast Guard Honor Gaurds, and he served at the White House when he re-enlisted. He also collected small European sports cars. He always had a handlebar mustache as far as I can remember, dapper clothes, and what I thought of as odd hats, boulders, fedoras, etc... He was of another decade, maybe even century. He also taught me to play golf and snooker. He was looked up to by many. Not bad for a guy born to Southern farmers.
Thanks again, everyone. It's been a hard day.

So sorry for your losses this last year Michael.

With the passing of my Uncle Frank, I am also the last pipe smoker in the family.

Here's to a happy, healthy "2015" to you and yours! :puffy:

Let me add my sorrow for your loss of what sounds like a very fine gentleman. 68 nowadays is quite young to pass.
Did by any chance you inherit his pipe? Sounds like a fine smoker and you could probably refurbish it in honor of his memory.

Sorry to hear Cos. In the past 12 mo we have buried four of our immediate family. Two Grandmothers, a brother and an aunt. Your Uncle sounds like a cool guy, To all the Uncles out there, teach your nephews well.
