Wonder what the Italian darling would've been had Wally Frank not saved them back in the 50s?

Don’t forget one of the forum sponsors Tabaccheria Corti for Castello. Luca drives over to Castello regularly and hand picks them out, to ensure really nice ones.

If I buy a Castello, this is where I’m going. :)

Seconds, we tend to think of as the reject pipes. This is more his line of factory mades. He designs them, and someone else does them... however, he could be involved in the process himself as well. But, to what extent, may vary.
I love some of the seconds that have come about. Even seconds from more affordable pipe companies like Comoys or Jobey. And the seconds from Dunhill ain’t too shabby either.

Your taste in pipes may very well change in time. Buy what you like and can afford at the time. It’s not gonna be the last one you ever buy, even if that’s what you tell yourself.
I told myself I was done buying BEFORE I bought 13 estate pipes and a 15 pipe rack! I’ve been toying around with restoring pipes. I’ve done some meerschaums and some briars. I think I definitely caught the bug!2F1649DF-4E24-47E3-B4E9-2A74445FC8BD.jpeg

Pretty nice ! I would say you do have the pipe collecting monkey on your back. But you can stop whenever you want... sure you can... you really can... no problem... it's cool man...

Since you're just starting out, you might want to plan a little so you don't keep chasing pipes on impulse. Maybe decide to buy three a year, or whatever limit. This will allow you to shop much more than you buy, learning along the way. I'd buy one pipe at a time, and no more than one a month, or whatever limit you set.

Also, you will be able to decide if you want to buy quite a few low or medium priced pipes, or would prefer to save up and buy fewer higher end pipes. You can find lower priced pipes the will smoke as well as any, but there is still the pride of ownership of higher end pipes and some aesthetic benefits of the additional artistry.

I have mostly mid- and lower priced pipes, but I do treasure my up-market pieces.

I like to select a few prospects in pipes and then narrow my selection down to one. That has been a successful strategy for me.
