Bought a couple sweet naked machine pipes from @dragonbriars about a week ago ($45 for pretty nice burners, “baby dragons”). One had some nice birdseye so I decided to try my hand at a light contrast stain.

Sanded progressively up to 1000 then used Fiebing’s Light Brown Leather Dye (3 coats) and heated up the stummel with my lighter.

After 24 hours I sanded that down until only the deep grain was colored, then applied 3 coats of light tan leather dye.

The morning after, a light sand with 1000, then 3 coats of Tripoli with the hand drill mount buffer and a couple coats of Carnauba. Turned out pretty decent!

What a winner of a project! I’ve bought some unfinished pipes too, although mine have come with grain that looks like the crest of an old man’s bald head. It’s rustication for me haha! Very nice pipe you’ve got there!

Haha yeah, I was surprised how decent the grain was on these ones. Nice acrylic stems too. The other one is a thick walled pot with a little metal band. I can’t decide if I want to put a darker stain on it, or watch patina develop on the naked wood.

I’ll probably grab a couple more to try a rusticated one as well. This shit is fun, haha.

Ugh. I can see where this is going already. Next thing ya know you’ve got a stack of Mimmo briar and some SEM rods and your turning out pipes. Then you get good with it and add your own “artistry” and I have to buy one. Geesh, give me a break man! ???

Good looking pipe. I've been tinkering with the idea of a baby dragon. You might have just convinced me.
Get one! Can't recommend Josh's pipes enough. Very unique artisan pipes at great prices, but the baby dragons are also top notch little burners, along the lines of Morgan Bones, but with fancier stems, sometimes a metal band, and different shapes. Good little pipes!

Josh can also slap any kind of finish, rustication, or blast you may want on one for a few dozen bucks extra.
