I'm just hoping he remembers all his friends here when the universe drops a 34 billion dollar lotto ticket in his lap to make up for all the stuff it's been giving him lately.
As for the pipe sorry to see that. I second or third or whatever everybody has been saying repair wise, see if you can get the shank widened and put an insert in it. Looking at the break it may shorten it some from having to clean up the edges. If your dead set on getting that silver ring I would say either solvent to remove it from the stem or a careful application of blowtorch to burn the wood out of the ring

I'm not an expert, but I think the best fix would be to have a professional fit a new metal ferrule at the point of the break and, if necessary, replace the stem with a longer one that would help to maintain the original length.
I'd personally never attempt to do a repair like this myself, unless I wasn't all that concerned about how it looked when I was done. That said, I'd probably just chalk it up to a hard lesson learned and let the pipe die a respectful death.

If I like the pipe, even if it was inexpensive, I'd have fixed it. Well, I would have someone else fix it LOL.
Just curious what the OP decided to do.
Yesterday I took out the dremel and carefully ground it flat and then hand drilled the shank to accommodate the stem. I also put a slight bend in the stem. It smokes great but needs to be prettied up a bit before I post pics. I'm thinking of an acrylic band between shank and stem.

This is what I have so far. I just need to get some acrylic to finish it off.

I didn't consider wood because i want to put a bright blue or green piece in there. Maybe emerald green since it's a pete.

If you haven't gotten the band off yet and don't want the piece it's attached to you could boil it in water for 20 minutes at a time to loosen the glue. It's looking like a nice fix and I think bright green will look great with the dark wood.

Let me know if it works for you. I would normally use a heat gun but the piece is so short you could damage something. It would definitely be best to remove the stem first.

The stem was already removed and when i bent it there was a ton of oxidation. It was nothing that some oxiclean soak a.d magic eraser couldn't remove as you can see from the pics. I will try boiling the broken part to get the band, maybe get it sized to fit my finger.
