I'm so looking forward to this sort of experience. Myself it will be sitting next to a British still water on Christmas day with my pipe in one hand and carp rod in the other! So many freind have tried to convince me I should be in their homes with them Christmas day but hell, fishing and smoking, my two hobbies. I know it's gonna b bliss!

jah76: I like the word centered in regard to pipesmoking. It does do that but I never connected it with that word.

I like that too. I was talking to my gf on the phone yesterday (she's on a biz trip) and I made the comment, "pipe smoking has enhanced my life greatly" and she said whoa, that a big statement, explain. So i told her that Ive enjoyed learning about this but when I smoke my pipe(s), I HAVE to slow things down and think. I have not turned the TV on in 2 weeks except on 2 occasions (the school shooting). I love to count myself as being a pipe smoker. I really love feeling a connection back to thousands of years of those that have gone on before me.

Great post. I enjoyed reading this thread. I'm new here and new to pipe smoking. I just bought my first pipe yesterday, a vauen. And I've had about six bowls. IhThink I will enjoy my new hobby. Already trying to plan my next purchase. Taking a walk and with a pipe sounds great. Look forward to it.

I now have 7 pipes, 6 lighters, 4 deer antler tampers, 2 czech tool, a 2 custom tampers, 5 bundles of pipe cleaners, 2 wooden boxes. And about 8 mason jars of tobacco. lol. I love this hobby and I really love the people on this forum. Very knowledgeable, helpful, and experienced. Welcome to The Life.

couldn't agree more with how smoking a pipe is a great hobby and the most relaxing thing I know of, may even be able to cut out the Zoloft (anti kill pills) soon.

I too started recently and already loving this hobby. My first great pipe smoking experience was when I got home from a particularly hectic day at work(I am an instructor at a local community college). I got home and played with my kiddos and started in on some lecture notes. Well, I needed a break, so I broke out the pipe and some nice Chuckanut Blend from my local tobbaconist and sat my front porch. Time just seemed to slow down. As I drew in the the smooth cool smoke, I felt a calm come over me. The air was crisp and cool and the warmth of the briar in my hand was nice on the cool NW evening. Ahhh, the joys of pipe smoking.

Great thread, thanks for starting it. I love my walks in the warm evenings here in Florida. I take my dogs and pipe and the warm tropical breezes with the palm trees gently swaying make the whole world seem peaceful.

I think there is something to walking, thinking and smoking. Its almost magical. Cigmaster, what you are describing sounds SO appealing to me to have a warm breeze.
