Visiting New Jersey this weekend. My cousin is at work so i cant hang out with her until she gets off work. So i decide to take a nice long walk. Its crispy cold but not too cold. Just enough to know its winter time. So I decide to take out my Meer, some Seattle's Best Blend from Tobacco Patch and light er up. This was so pleasant and delightful. In the past, it was all about getting from point A to B. This was about enjoying the moment. The pipe smell in the cold air was delectable.

I know the feeling. Woke up early this morning to watch the Geminids, and puffed a bowl of Pembroke in one of my meerschaums. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Nice post Z. Pipe smoking can take an ordinary walk and elevate it to something special - thanks for sharing.

Sounds Great! I usually smoke my meerschaums inside, but sounds like you had a pleasant walk. I like being alone most of the time, but the pups join me during excursions down the road sometimes.
(Be careful with a meer on a windy day. Had one crack and blow-up in my face years ago when it got to hot!)

I have noticed my drives to and from work are getting slower and more meandering. Also, I sit in the driveway finishing my bowl. Looks like I need to find another route to work :)
EDIT: sounds like you had a nice walk btw!!!

Sounds like a very good piece of alone time you had.
Personally, I'm so, well, clumsy, I only take a beater or cob out to do anything other than sit. I just know a meer wouldn't survive long with me trying that.

Shame on you Greg you know we can"t use the word clumsy anymore LOL, it's attention span disorder ASP, don"t want the word police showing up at your door, that being said I believe you could take care of them LOL. The old cajun

Good stuff.
It sounds horrible but I actually find myself taking my kids for more walks since I started smoking a pipe. Heck I even hang out with the dogs more.
I really enjoy the "centered" feeling pipe smoking brings me. Most my life I've felt out of sync with the world, and this hobby really brings me some clarity and helps me settle my thoughts.

I actually like that: ASP the NEW affliction! LOL And "care" would be the PC word for what they'd get, Old Cajun!

It is kind of funny though that i've had more than a few rubber neckers look at me to see what I am doing. I think much of the general public hasnt seen many meers. And since i am young (ok, young "looking" :P), I get looks like i lighting up some wacky weed.

Don't mean to be picky, but wouldn't that be ASD. I guess I work for the APD (abbreviation police department). :D

Good one Cajun !
On topic: Yes, those slow, long walks in the crisp air, slowly enjoying a pipe make for very pleasant experiences. In Texas, we don't get many of those nights though. It tends to get pretty windy here when it gets cold.

I so enjoyed my morning walk that I decided to do it again. But alas, I lost my tamper, didn't have a spare. So I walked out in blind faith that I would figure something out. Low and behold what do I find in the grass 20 min into my walk.... my tamper. I just had to smile at that little thing.

I know what you mean brother. The other day I was walking down the drive to get the paper. Jake was running along the fence playing tag with the bulls. The geese were lounging next to the pond and I stopped at mid way, leaned on a persimmon tree and just took it in. The frost covered the grass and the pond had that clear glass freeze on it. I love this time of year. Snuggled in my shearing coat and felt hat time stood still and before I know it the bowl was gone.

I smoke my pipe in the evenings when I'm out feeding the goats. It's very relaxing walking through the snow in the mountains with only your pipe, and your thoughts.
