The problem is the unique method we use for pressing. The tobacco is covered with 3/4" plywood and a circus elephant sits on it for 24 hours. The delays come when the elephants don't want to stand up to let us retrieve the cake, because, after all, who's going to argue with a full-grown elephant?

Javan, I am going to bet that you got this early in your exploration of pipes, and you had not yet learned to dry your tobacco. Ammi-right? So, the steam from the wet tobacco burned your tongue, ammi-right?
Try it again, and let it dry to your satisfaction. I think you'll find that there's nothing really inherently bitey about it, except water.
You might be right Michael. Or it might be the Red Virginias. It has Red Virginia in it, doesn't it?
