Andrew Marks pipes are rare as hen's teeth on the estate market, but there were five on ebay last week. I was able to pick up two of them. This is the one I've had a chance to clean up and smoke.
I've become a great fan of Marks's pipes in recent months. I picked up this estate a while back -- a wonderful smoker, and I have a commission in the works that I hope will be done sometime this fall. Marks uses high quality ebonite for his stems and his pipes always have a nice, open draw. And that's true of this pipe. The chamber is exactly 3/4 of an inch wide and an inch and a half deep -- perfect for VAs.

Pitch, Good for you! I saw those, the one you bought and the half bent "strwberry" with the taper stem 1985 were the nicest. I rationalized not bidding by thinking about some of Andrew's current work I really like...Christmas is coming. Which other one did you win?

Thanks, Dave. The other one I bought was the billiard with the push stem:

I agree about Marks's current work, though. Some of it is just spectacular, especially if you like his quirky sense of shape and proportion. For the new pipe, I opted for something like this in the bright ember finish (light orange):
