Wow, just wow! Firstly its s great looking pipe, very handsome. Secondly, what a great piece of history it turned out to be. It sure adds a dimension to know that it has a long history with people going back over a hundred years.

I agree! Although it was made to smoke-it hasn't been in all these years. A perfect piece to preserve. There's millions of pipes out there to smoke. I could let one like that sit and just look at it and wonder about the history and the man behind it.

Perhaps he was the absent minded professor. Or, perhaps he just admired the pipe as it was, and felt no need to put a match to it. It is a beautiful pipe! Congrats on the score!

Just remember, tobacco tins were made to be thrown in the trash when empty. If you haven't the courage to let your antique tins fulfill their destiny send them to me and I'll trash them for you. Wait, that isn't right. I'd give a great deal to have some of the old tins that I just threw into the trash when I'd emptied them fifty years ago. What you have is not just another smoking tool but a treasure. Cherish it.

Thanks for all the comments Guys!

I think gregprince, ejames, and sable said it best:

Gotta love those old Comoys. You have other pipes for smoking, nothing wrong with having one to cherish.

I have many other pipes to smoke, chances are this one won't be the "smoke of a lifetime".......

I just have to wonder why the Prof didn't smoke it, perhaps it was a gift to him, and he thought enough of it to cherish it? Anyways we'll never know..........

You never know, someday I might meet one of Professor Schealer's kin and return it to the family. That would be cool if one of his great-great grandsons could break this in, if he chose to!

Could this possibly be a Southern thing?

I would think it is-- Southern Hospitality runs deep, and they take pride in preserving their heritage. Someone cared enough about this pipe to document its heritage, and keep it for the 50 some odd years since he passed in 1956.......

To all who say smoke the hell out of it-----Do you spend all the cash in your wallet? Cash is made for spending, right??

Spend the hell out of it, that's what it was intended for!!....... :puffy:
