Hello To All, I came across this Amphora E-xtra 720-640 on Facebook market place. It is all original box, pouch. This pipe has never been smoked. I can tell that it has some years on it but no real way to know how many. I am new to the pipe smoking world and trying to learn as much as I can. I know that it is a Danish company that went bankrupt in 2012. Can anyone let me know if this was a average, good, or excellent find?
Thank you, Bluegrasspiper

As the Pipedia article says, these pipes were made in the Netherlands by the Royal Dutch Pipe Factory. I’m quite a fan of Big Ben pipes, and I can say that the company is very reliable.
Also, at one point in Europe, you could get an Amphora pipe by mailing in a few empty Amphora tobacco pouches along with a small payment, and they would send you a new pipe in return.

My experience is that X-tra pipes are a tremendous bang for the buck.
I have several - wide open draw and no negatives.
Really good grab for that price.

Same experience here. I discovered them completely by accident many years ago when I bought an estate odd lot. Now, it’s one of the brands that I actively seek out. They’re not overly fancy or particularly beautiful, but in my experience they generally tend toward a nice smoking experience.

Thank you for the feedback, I was a little hesitant to smoke it because it had never been been smoked before. But then I said to myself that's what it is for. I don't regret it at all. I don't have an extensive collection (3 total) but it became my favorite. A very easy and enjoyable smoke. I am still learning allot and enjoying my pipe journey. If anyone has any advice for me I will welcome any and all.

In my experience over the years Amphora is a great smoke!

Agreed. well-crafted pipes. I have about a half-dozen of various shapes from the X-tra series, and they have all been consistently great smokers, to the point that a couple of them have been dedicated to certain blends.

I'll buy them all day long at mostly still-reasonable prices. And they're common enough that you can find them in thrift shops, antique malls, as well as Ebay.
