There's been a huge number of races to get almost to the finish line, but right now, it's the British boat (Ineos) vs. the Italian boat (Prada Pirelli Luna Rossa) tied at four apiece.

The most recent race which tied it up:

Even if you have zero interest in racing, sailing or boats in general, a look at the above isn't sailing as most know it. The technology is impressive.

Just one foil in the water at a time, that and a rudder are all that's keeping the boat flying at up to 50 mph...

Going slightly off topic (sorry John), but this reminded me of a story yesterday from here in Cornwall where gig racing is absolutely huge.

My local squad Falmouth (south coast) beat the Newquay squad (north coast) despite carrying what seems like a portapotty aboard their gig

BTW I'm sure it's a buoy but hey, my eyesight is a bit off of late.

Jay.

I followed the America's Cup regularly back when the boats were much more traditional monohulls. Remember when the New Zelanders beat Connors - a great event!
IMHO, the new boats are not what the Cup is about. Classic sailing.

Agree. I have followed it since before the US lost the cup the first time.

Well, unfortunately these technical beasts are today's America's Cup. I'd rather see one-design monohulls over a real course, not just upwind and downwind legs.

I doubt that these overly specialized rigs can do well on a broad reach.

Still, I urge every one to take a brief look at part of a race. Link is at the top of o.p..
