Understood. I would pick Bosun over Conniston for a one time go at Lakelands. The thing is, this is most likely a once in a lifetime thing. Thats why i dont just order once and order more of what i like. I have to take reaaally calculated gambles.
Never tried lakelands so i out that oz there just to see what the fuss is about![]()
I didn't think Brown Flake was a straight VA?If you’re going to explore GH&Co, and you’re looking for straight Virginia, I recommend their Brown Flake unscented and their Dark Flake unscented. They use what some refer to as “Empire” leaf, which offers fuller bodied flavors.
As far as I know it is, but I haven’t looked at the description recently. In any event it’s a tasty tobacco.I didn't think Brown Flake was a straight VA?
Indeed it is, one of my favs. SP says it has African dark fired and Malawi burley. Still recommendedAs far as I know it is, but I haven’t looked at the description recently. In any event it’s a tasty tobacco.
That Malawi will add a touch of cocoa to the profile. Thanks for the correction.Indeed it is, one of my favs. SP says it has African dark fired and Malawi burley. Still recommended
Yeah, Hogshead was revelatory for me, a Virginia unlike any other. Glad that I bought a few tins of it.I don’t think I saw this mentioned (if it was, I missed it): Seattle Pipe Club Hogshead; it’s a Pure Virginia Plug made with ten year old Orange and Red Virginias. It’s a very tasty blend. Its availability may be a problem, though, because of the whole STG purchase of Mac Baren and Sutliff (Sutliff produced it for Seattle Pipe Club). You might be able to find the Bourbon Barrel Aged version in stock at some vendors.
Yes i have come to realise that they're a different beast. I have a TON of European va so some American stuff wouldnt hurt.C&D Red Carpet, Virginia Flake, GLP Montgomery... the reason is that you guys have only access to cased Virginia blends, and these would be all pure unadulterated Virginia tobaccos. You may find that you prefer cased, but at least it would give you a notion of what a tobacco that is uncased tastes like. Even many Americans find that they prefer the Europeans heavily cased tobaccos... but they are commies pinkos.![]()
Same tobacco IMHO. Both come from C&D. I prefer Union Square. How would you compare opening night to union square?

What are your absolute top 3?
Opening Nights is a red VA Flake. I like them both. How would you compare opening night to union square?
