Great thread! I don't watch football or any sports, actually. I don't even have a television. Got rid of it almost 20 years ago. I used to go to archery tournaments and that was the only sport I participated in until everyone started getting wrapped around the axle and taking it so seriously it had all the fun of a death march. Geez, it's an archery tournament, not the Battle of Agincourt over here. I kept waiting for the "band of brothers" speech and the onslaught of French knights. All this for the prize of a frozen turkey. Meh.

I'll watch a game every now and then. It's a bit boring though in my opinion. I do love hockey though. Doesn't matter if it's college, juniors, ECHL, AHL, or the NHL I'll watch it intently.

I spent ten years out of the country. '87-'97 I was 17 years old when I left, and 28, when I returned. I didn't recognize my country. The culture, the stars, the actors, what's popular on television, the music... America is just as much of a foreign country to me sometimes, as any other that I've been to. :?

Never could get into watching football or any sports really. I briefly tried to watch NASCAR after I got my high definition TV, and it did look pretty cool on it, but I couldn't stick with it. I thought about trying out watching Formula 1 races on TV but have not done that yet. They play at weird hours in the U.S. and have not remembered to DVR it when it's on.

NASCAR has really changed a lot and continues to fight to keep it's audience I think. Except for a couple of races I find it hard to watch a complete race and follow anymore. It seems to be about making young drivers into marketing stars for brands & products. I really miss watching the old Can-Am Racing Series between SCCA & CASC and those cars. I still enjoy watching the 24 Hrs of Le Mans and the Rolex 24 at Daytona. You can enjoy good driving & good racing and not have to sit thru the whole thing.

I've never been a sports fan at all, despite spending 3 years in Marching Band and Pep Band (or maybe because of spending 3 years in Marching/Pep band... :D)

I am a Philadelphia Eagles fan and watch as many of their games as I can but they are the only NFL team I follow. If they are not playing the late game on Sunday or on Monday night I don't watch. Saturday is a whole different ball game. While my Wolverines are wallowing in the lowest levels of the college football abyss, I have to say I could watch just about any college game from any league. The Ole Miss/LSU game this past Saturday was probably the best game I have seen in 3 years. I have no dog in the fight but it was just a great game. With this being said, football, hockey, the Food Network, Discovery Channel, and CNBC are the only things I watch. I would say less than 8 hours per week on TV this time of year, and minus the Tour de France in the summer I would say I don't watch 3 hours of TV per week the rest of the year.

What is it with balls? (and no, not testicles). In this culture of ours, everyone is so enamored with balls. They can be having riots downtown, or bldgs. collapsing down the street, but there will be those who are glued to their tv's, so they can watch the game. What does that say about us as a society in general? Are we so easily entertained and pacified? I guess if someone wanted to conquer the U.S, after they took over, they could just tell us " you must turn in your guns, your citizen radios and your finiancial information to us, BUT we'll let you keep your ball games on the nationally controlled T.V. I wonder how many would think, Oh, ok. At least we'll know who's in the playoffs!

I know. I'm just about as bad as everyone else. But to answer the OP, I don't watch football, basketball, tennis, lacrosse, volley ball, golf, rugby, or cricket for that matter. I DO like baseball, and soccer though. But not obsessed with them.

For some reason I get really irritated with a baseball, football or basketball player making millions of dollars while a police officer can barely make ends meet sometime. And who does the more important or useful job? It just seems ass-backwards.

Back in the day, I don't think we thought ball players needed to be millionaires to play a game. it was a more sensible era.

I think I'll go back to bed now.
