So I thought I'd at least post up the results of the first bowl through it. Loaded it up with Connoisseur's Choice when I got home and it smokes beautifully. The stem seems a little "beefier" than my other Petes, but I think it's nice so at least it's a good pipe even if it's not truly Irish LOL.

That's the important thing I guess.

Well, except for the shamrock, right? LOL I'm not sure that it necessarily means it's not made in Ireland, my biggest concern in my particular case was that it was a departure from the standard markings of all the other Peterson Systems I've seen. It would be a bit of a bitter irony if your St. Pat's pipe was not made in Ireland.

I have a Peterson System 314 purchased 2 months ago from the UK. I was a bit dissapointed when I opened it, it was my first briar pipe and there was glue sticking out around the mount and after removing the stem a small crack inside. It does not have any markings saying made in Ireland. Just "Peterson of Dublin, System Standard 314". Main thing is it smokes well.

I've been wanting a Peterson System for a while, but alas.
I'd be willing to bet it smokes just fine though. I understand wanting to have your collection just as you like it, I get that tinge now and again.

UPDATE TIME!
Here is the reponse I received from Angela Fortune:
Dear Sir
It is some time since we used “Made in the Republic of Ireland” circa 10 years. We now use a different stamp i.e. “Peterson of Dublin”.
We hope this information is of help.
Kind regards

Angela Fortune
This was my response to that email:
Angela,

Thank you for your response! The pipe I referenced in my previous email also does not have the referenced “Peterson of Dublin” stamp. The markings on the pipe itself are “Peterson System” then “303” on the other side, and the collar is marked with the familiar “K&P Peterson” stamp. The reason that I press the point is that there are rumors on the internet that this line of pipe is no longer produced in Ireland. While the pipe is a fine smoker, I would be interested to know so that in the future I may make a little more substantial investment in a line I know is produced in at your location.
Thanks again and have a great day!
And then her immediate (like within a minute) reponse:
Dear Mr. Manning
Please rest assured that all of our pipes are made here in the factory in Sallynoggin.
Kind regards

Angela Fortune
I feel better, how about you guys?

I really don't want to harass the woman. Perhaps I'll follow up another day, but for now I think I'll just be satisfied with that answer. But I'd encourage anyone else who wants more info to follow it up. Thanks for all the support and information, friends!

@kabong: Good work and thanks for sharing.
@herbinedave: Your response suggests you don't believe the pipes are in fact manufactured at Sallynoggin. Is there some good evidence on this? Is there a difference between the mainline Petes and the Kapets?
This is a subject of some interest to me, and if you have reason to doubt the company's response, I'd really like to be able to share it.
Thanks.

Here was my email, sent just now:
Sirs:
I am a great devotee of Peterson pipes. I own and enjoy many examples, some purchased new, some treasured estate pipes. I am no cold-pipe collector; all of my pipes see use and several of my Peterson pipes are my very “best smokers.” In addition, my den contains a good variety of Peterson accoutrements. Come Father’s Day or Christmas morning, my wife and sons know they can never go wrong with the gift of a Peterson pipe or accessory.
Besides being inherently fine pipes, and usually a very good value as well, it is the “Irish-ness” of my Petes that appeals greatly to me. Don’t let the last name fool you; nearly all my ancestors were from Ireland, and came to the US fleeing, or in the aftermath of, An Gorta Mor, here to make their fortunes and raise the succeeding generations, of which I am a proud member. I consider Peterson pipes a reflection and celebration of a treasured Irish heritage.
So you might imagine my dismay when I heard of a rumor, now well filtered through the Internet, that at least some Peterson pipes are being manufactured elsewhere, particularly in France. And while I bear the French no ill-will, and even own and enjoy some French pipes, I confess that I want my Irish pipes to be Irish.
Now I know full well that any rumor – most of all that virulent sub-species found on the Internet – is likely to be unreliable. So I am writing directly to you in hopes you can put the issue to rest in a definitive way. Can you confirm that Peterson pipes are made in Ireland? Can you advise if all aspect of the manufacture occur there (with the obvious exception that the briar must certainly be imported from elsewhere)?
Thank you in advance for your kind attention to my concern.

@herbinedave:
Thanks. It is tough to get at the truth. I appreciate your efforts.
Let's see what the company says, for what that's worth.
(Do you have a link to the thread? Very interested to see it.)

@herbinedave I hope you don't feel that I was being dismissive, that was not at all my intention. I simply didn't want to build any ill-will with the person at Peterson. I have no doubt that you have more knowledge than I do on the subject, I was just saying that for now, I'll accept Angela's answer and let it lie. I really appreciate the insight you've provided. :D

Basically the same thing Kabong got and a bit of a stock answer that does not directly address herbinedave's information.

Sorry to hear that man.

I ordered a Pete from Germany and still have yet to receive it. Was given a tracking number and everything. Called my post office today and they have no records of that number. I will be contacting customs later today.
